Taoiseach: ‘National conversation needed on what’s driving anger and violence in society’

  1. So when are we having this national conversation? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month?

Oh, never. Ok well that was big pile of nothing, you shiftless cunt.

  2. Because your policies intentionally make the working classes compete for resources against each other, creating resentment and anger, and also create poverty leading to social deprivation, drug addiction, mental health issues as well as a general lack of well being for themselves and those around them.

There’s a reason this shit happens in places like Ballyfermot, Tallaght and Blanchardstown rather than say Blackrock or Foxrock.

  3. Are they really going to pretend this is not driven by the housing crisis and other economical stuff affecting the lower class people the most? I’m a very calm and peaceful person, but even I had intrusive, violent thoughts and some people I spoke to who are in a similar situation admitted to those as well. Parents stress easily goes down onto children.

  4. Some day, he’s going to realise he and his party have been in power for quite a while, and the failure to address these issues rest on his shoulders…..

  5. This is pure Varadkar.

Every story he’s asked about he says he’s “aware” or he’s “concerned” or says there “needs to be a conversation”.

But after saying his piece, he does nothing and the news cycle moves on.

A game could be made based on trying to predict if he’s “aware”, “concerned” or thinks “there needs to be a conversation” when the next news story breaks.

  6. ***”Current government and their mismanagement driving anger and violence in society”***

    There you go answered it.

  7. The main anger and violence is predominantly the youth. There’s a failed justice system that takes no action against them. But I’m sick of seeing videos of parents and other Adults laughing, encouraging them and ultimately blaming everyone else for their child’s actions.

  8. >He(M Martin) said there is an absolute importance to impart on current generations that attacking members of the gardaí is “simply a no no” in our society.

I mean, not really? I don’t think the average Jo(e) Public is confused whether attacking members of the Gardaí is ok or not ok.

There’s a tiny tiny section of this population that a) believes it is ok and b) is not afraid of the consequences of doing it. To fix that, you need tougher consequences, better parenting/rehabilitation where possible, and nice long jail terms as a protective measure for when its not possible.

Plus I doubt that these people who are not afraid to attack Gardaí are 100% respectful to anyone else who’s a little bit different to them in race, sexuality, etc.

  9. Jesus, is this lad trying to fucking out-dumb himself?

Last week it was “Taoiseach can’t understand low levels of home ownership among younger people”.

  10. It is baffling really, I mean sure there’s a cost of living crisis, a housing crisis, a constant threat of WW3, they’re changing the name of Lilt, ever growing climate concerns, and there’s an increased feeling among people that they’ll never be able to establish a secure future for themselves. But pent up fear, stress, and despair has never manifested as misdirected anger against vulnerable targets before anywhere… I can’t really think of what could be contributing to it at all

  11. His smug face in every picture we see as he acts oblivious to his successive governments’ part in the mess

  12. It’s easy. It’s what fuels it everywhere it happens in society throughout the world.

Insecurity. People can’t afford homes, can’t afford to live in our biggest cities. The homes we do have are falling apart due to shitty build quality in parts of the island exacerbating the issue. We’ve a drug crisis. A healthcare crisis. We’ve become a tax haven and a welcome home for vulture funds. And all our politicians are happy for it because it provides them opportunities to stuff their already fat pockets, so they don’t genuinely try to fix any of it.

This leads to the obvious. People seeking someone to blame. They’ll blame immigrants coming in and taking homes. They’ll blame LGBT folk for ‘corroding society’ or whatever their line is. They’ll blame the homeless for falling to drugs. They’ll blame everyone, except widely those who are actually responsible for it all: the politicians. And the politicians are happy for it. So the issues and the divided society remains. Because it’s stops the buck falling their feet.

People are fighting to survive and their fighting all the wrong people. And there are those amongst the throes who obviously are happy people are seeking someone to blame, because they can use their own biases to direct anger and misplace it toward innocent people.

There’s no surprise to be found when you look at the happiest nations in the world and see that its exclusively filled by nations where people feel most secure in their livelihood and future.

  13. This Leo lad is really good at gaslighting the absolute fuck out of people and shoving all blame over to everyone else.

As if he and his party haven’t been in power for literally years, know exactly why things are getting worse, and pretend they can’t do anything about it.

  14. I’d have to go with the complete failure of the political class, who’s existence even shows how lacking this country is in real leadership and following through to their word.

Everyone is pissed and annoyed at being repeatedly fucked over and discarded by successive governments causing massive social and cultural issues and a growing sense of apathy.

  15. There are no repercussions for behaviour like this now. It then becomes normalised for a certain subsection in society who will have kids while still in their teens making it intergenerational.

Add in the normalisation of daily drug use and a rise in mental health issues connected to that (in some cases at least), a reluctance by authorities to intervene and use force at an early stage, if required…

    This is the end result.

There’s an African proverb: speak quietly but carry a big stick.

The stick doesn’t have to be a police baton or pepper spray. It could be stopping your child benefit for three months following scrotery by your kids.

At the moment there is almost no punishment worth talking about for underage crime unless you kill or rape someone.

  16. Simply put:
If you pay people circa e80 per week for each child they have and also incentivise people on the housing list for having big families.
We are creating an environment where those who shouldn’t be having any children are having 3/4/5/6 each while those of us of good stock find it too expensive to even pay the bills.
If 200 scumbags have 3/4/5 kids each, that initial 200 becomes over a 1000 more in twenty years.
We have been encouraging this situation over the last 100 years and just increasing payments and providing better housing.
The problem will grow and grow while we continue to go down this road.

Community reps can go on the radio talking crap about infrastructure, finances and investment all they want, but the likes of those scumbags with 200 convictions we see in the courts, their kids are never going to be any better because of changes in society or investment, they are moulded at home 95% and by society by only a fraction.

We need to build more prisons to meet our growing population instead of cutting corners as every Department does on services, and also change our welfare system to incentivise working people to have children and take the carrots away from the scumbags to have big families.

  17. Ok, let’s start with FFFG policies which are creating and economically deprived generation with little to no long term prospects. It’s not rocket science, economic deprivation leads to crime, always has always will 🤷‍♂️

  18. Classic varadkar, overseeing slash and burn of community policing for years, enact policies to deepen wealth inequality and remove realistic hope of anyone improving their lot in life…..

Then act surprised when poorer communities tear emselves apart

  19. Closing local Garda stations, not having cops on the beat anymore preventing crime, going after car tax dodgers instead of actual criminals, young people unable to be touched literally and figuratively, parents not giving a crap about what their kids are up to…..probably a few more things I’ve missed

  20. Your governments policy’s maybe??? Kinda obvious statement but it actually irkes me seeing scum like Varadkar and Harris along with slimeballs like Martin running this country while making empty statements in media constantly. An awful pack of clowns that never seem to face any consequences for their schenanigans.

  21. >there is an absolute importance to impart on current generations that attacking members of the gardaí is “simply a no no” in our society.

This advice should be imparted via, you know, actual repercussions. Not saying “it’s a no-no to go ramming Garda cars” to some reporter for the Journal.

You know, actual arrests. Imprisonment. The things that they don’t even remotely fear because it’s never been a consequence they’ve faced when breaking the law or threatening the safety of others.

  22. How about a national conversation any judge Martin Nolans sentencing policies for starters then.

  23. Fuckers capitalising on the anger of gobshites pissed about policy made by plonkers. Thanks, good chat. How about doing something about it.
