So they can make with our currency what they want.
Used to be 2600 metric tons in the 80s. The SNB sold a lot in the early 2000s.
Around 30% of the remaining 1040 tons is stored in Canada and England. The SNB in return also hosts foreign gold for other countries (insert Nazi gold joke here).
