Poorest families worse off under Boris Johnson while incomes of richest soar, new analysis finds

  1. Not a Boris fan, but that’s the current system, not Boris. Not an issue that will just go away when he does.

Now my question is: Are the independent purposely trying to tie growing in equality to Boris as a scapegoat, or are they just seeing some juicy clickbait during his downfall?

  2. >…says a damning report on his “levelling up” pledge.

    colour me shocked

Be the least surprising bit of information I have come across for a while.

  3. You don’t say. But remember… they are all the same.. and chaos with Ed still trying to finish that sandwich while staring at bad red man.

  4. So, doing the job he was employed to do then?

I’m unsure why we needed “new analysis” – this is the tory remit, always has been, and always will be.

If you’re not stupid, or stupid rich, then why the fuck are you voting tory?

  5. Whilst linked to Boris in this story it has been a trend for many years. I never understood why both Tory and Labour governments failed to restrict all tax reliefs to basic rate. Allowing higher rate tax relief on, for example, pension contributions only enables higher rate taxpayers to increase their pension pots further when they already possess adequate provision for retirement. And higher rate relief for things such as EIS film schemes is just ridiculous.

  6. Guys, theres no need for the smug responses to prove how this is working by design.

The importance of this being clear and obvious to the rest of the electorate is key.

If you know this youre already likely not a Boris supporter

  7. So… basically the Tories did exactly what they always do? How is this news? Is water being wet newsworthy now, too?

  8. You don’t say? The party of the rich is acting against the interests of the poor?

And yet, some of the poorer people in our country still vote for this.

“Trickle down effect”. Yeah it’s trickling down alright. Trickling piss down onto you

    Wake up

  9. Wages below a certain amount need to be guaranteed against inflation. And something needs to be done to prevent employement churning. The lack of both of those keeps the poor being poor.

  10. Fair is fair, that is exactly what people voted for.

I’m on the left. I feel like we keep pointing out that the Tories are bastards and Brexit is a bad idea. And WE don’t understand that a significant minority (maybe a majority?) want that. They’re pleased by other people suffering.

  11. Damn but Johnson said poverty was down from 1997 thanks to his government…its almost like he was lying and attempting to take responsibility for something a different government achieved…while working to undo it.

  12. Well, duh. What else will come of all the cuts to social programs, education, healthcare and housing? We’ve bred a generation of apathetic struggling families with no real propescts ahead of them.

But just like the rules they implement, none of the cuts apply to their life.

    And they laugh at us.

Honestly come the next election, whoever votes Johnson I’ll consider as a heatless bastard.

  13. Water is wet, new analysis finds. Many people exclaim that water showed clear signs of being wet for several years before and analysis wasn’t really necessary. Several spokespersons who publicly presented evidence of water being wet in the past and were laughed at were quoted as saying ‘I fucking told you so’. Several people who got wet after voting for water claimed they thought they would stay dry, but vowed to continue defending water as all their favorite license-funded TV channels and water-funded newspapers insisted that water isn’t actually wet and is actually dry.

Tl;dr This was already obvious to everybody, nobody is surprised, and nothing will actually change.

  14. Growing up, I always remembered my mum bemoaning how the Tories “steal from the poor to give to the rich”, and little me thought that was incredibly unfair.

It is one of numerous reasons why I have never, and never will, vote for them.

Now my dear old folks are retired and own two houses, guess who they vote for?

  15. Colour me shocked that the Tory party a we’ll known party of the rich have done this… it’s not like we have centuries of experience

Sadly in the smart phone era the rich in this country can now manipulate the less educated to vote for Tory with some buzz words like “get brexit done” or just use some racism to get them worked up.

Whilst the left continue to argue amongst themselves about how left they should be rather than teaming up and getting the tories out of bloody power.

  16. wow…like radical man…who would have thought getting the State to subsidise workers to let business profiteer and then reduce the States remuneration. It’s almost as if WE are SUBSIDISING business out of OUR wages…well my Gast has been well and truly Flabbered….

  17. This will continue until people recognise we’ve been in class warfare the last several hundred years and the rich are slapping us about so fucking well we don’t even know it’s happening. They’ve got the entire media apparatus on their side and fill it daily with simple distractions like immigrants and other convenient propaganda.

  18. The legitimisation of these criminals has been awful. TV and newspapers have rotted my parents generations brains.

Whereas almost every person under 30 I know is totally aware we are being run by corrupt proto-fascists.

  19. I actually made the mistake of getting interested in politics in 2019 because it *did* interest me.

When Boris got in on the back solely because of “gEt BrExIt DoNe”

I knew all hope was lost. I try really fucking hard to avoid it now at all costs.

No matter how bad it gets and how much it’s pointed out in various media that the Tories are just doing it now with impunity people will still vote them in every general election.

  20. Yeah, well, that’s to be expected by design. The Tories’ primary governing mantra is “fuck the poor”, you can see it in literally everything they do. This is their entire vibe. Keep rich white men rich.

Honestly, this is the least surprising headline you’ll read all year.

  21. This has always been the case regardless who the leader of the Tories is.

The entire Tory Ideology is built upon making the rich richer whilst fucking the poor over.

If people haven’t figured this out by now then they truly are morons.

  22. There is absolutely no way the poorest have only lost £110 across a year for *everything*. Rent alone has increased like 50% in the last few years, at least around here

  23. I remember being poor as a kid in the late 70s and 80s under the Thatcher regime.

I have no fucking idea why so many working class people shot themselves in the foot voting for this toff.
