  1. In the foreground of the photo lies the tomb of [Stefan Uroš III, King of Serbia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_De%C4%8Danski), who started the construction of the [Dešani monastery](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visoki_De%C4%8Dani) in 1327, and was the first king to sit on this stone throne (in the background).

The last one to do it was [King Alexander Karađorđević](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_I_of_Yugoslavia), seen [here](https://kossev.info/wp-content/uploads/public/files/files/5/kralj%20i%20kraljica%201924.jpg) sitting on the throne, Queen Maria next to him, in 1924.

The monastery, which is one of the crown jewels of Serbian medieval sacral architecture, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been visited by many people over the years and centuries, including for example [Joe Biden in 2009](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1c/Joe_Biden_on_a_tour_of_the_Decani_Monastery_2009.jpg), who called it “a symbol of tolerance”.

The “heir” to the defunct throne of Serbia, prince Filip Karđorđević, often visits the place with his family, [seen here](https://nova.rs/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/14/1660506379-Screenshot_26-1200×800.jpg) passing beneath the tomb of the King which has become a tradition as his remains have come to be considered holy over the centuries.

  2. “Last used in 1924” sound like it is on sale on a second hand website 😉

The Dečani Monastery is in Kosovo, this photo explains a lot why Serbians will never recognize the independence of Kosovo.
