Allowed alcohol volume in blood while driving in Europe

  1. Don’t know if there is a different measurement in Europe for this but in the US we’d write .08 not 0.8, which would be fatal at that level.

  2. For the record, a French man was once arrested for driving with more than 5.0 of alcohol.

I don’t understand how he was alive and able to start his car, yet he did, somehow.

  3. Having a limit and enforcing it are two separate things. Slovenians know this and REALLY take advantage of it when they cross Bregana!

  4. 0% seems a bit excessive? I’m pretty sure there’s a few officially non-alcoholic drinks and foods that can make you register on a breathalyzer, like kefir.

  5. I don’t support drinking and driving, however having the limit set to 0.0 is not a good idea in my opinion since there are other factors that can show up on dredgers as a positive result. Smoking being one of them ( non-smoker here – just against the 0.0 as it can be misleading )

  6. In Denmark(at least) we have additional conditions, if you have a legal but measured alcohol concentration, you can still be convicted of drink driving, if deemed to be unsafe. And if you get into an accident it is going to be your fault too

  7. Long time ago, in Romania was 0.4, but because people won’t stop after a beer or two and because of lots of car crashes, the parliament past a new law with 0.0 and belive me, 0 means 0. For alcohol you go straight to jail, no fine no nothing.

  8. .2 is effectively zero as consumer-grade alcometers can’t really measure .2 with any accuracy. A blood sample is needed to really know the blood-alcohol level.

  9. 0.0 ?
I agree with the idea that drinking even moderate alcohol while driving is a basic misconception.
But isn’t 0.0 too much? If I take a cough syrup, or some medicines that are different from 0.0, will I be fined?

  10. I’m a criminal. I admit it here. I lived in Tornio, which is on the Swedish border in Finland. Our home was about couple hundred meters from Sweden. I once drove a car after a couple of beers (which is ok in Finland!) to get that shitty kalja from Sweden.

  11. In czechia you can’t even drive bicycle or anything other if you have any alkohol jn blood. Police don’t care and take your license at spot. My uncle drive tractor between small villages where no one rides, he has 0.1 and he lost it for months. I can’t understand how anyone think it’s okay to drink anything if you know you will drive afterwards

  12. In Austria you have to be carefull (and I think this is in most countries the same). The 0,5‰ is blood concentration, which is around 0,25 in the breath.

  13. In the US, the threshold for DWI or OUI in most states is 0.08. Operating a motor vehicle with any alcohol in your system in most US states is still technically illegal, although the threshold where someone would be charged varies depending on the motor vehicle being used, state, aggravating circumstances, and the age of the driver. (As low as 0.02 in some situations).
