> “believing that Jewish people are promoting immigration and …causes, such as LGBTQ+ rights, in the supposed hope of weakening white communities and lowering white birth rates”
I’m REALLY keen that the media do their fucking job this time around and report who is organising the protests.
So far, the BBC and ITN aren’t.
so what’s this about some people have a permit, but others don’t? Maybe if there’s a good reason such as disability, but I suspect it’s just going to be based on some daft criteria. (bearing in mind the roads are public roads, not private ones.
walk places? my god! why would i do that when i have 2 jags to drive? i didnt go to cambridge to become the next leader of the tory party, just to to to waalk places.
*prances about like a peacock saluting a big picture of john prescott.
So sick and tired of entitled car nutters and their absurd pollution tanks. That’s what they look like now, tank drivers. At least in the old days they had some sort of pleasing design aesthetic, while belching out their toxic gases
The religion of this country isn’t christianity or the NHS, it is the automobile.
They closed a bunch of roads off in York which has done nothing but increase traffic by forcing it all through single lane choke points.
I’d be 100% for them bringing trams back to the city, but instead all they’ve done is make getting around more difficult.
Imo these LTNs are fucking stupid unless they significantly improve public transport options first, because all they’re doing is shifting the problem else.
I find it very curious that rather than improve public transport to the point that it becomes attractive they would rather devolve driving to the point it becomes unbearable.
It actually astounds me that the crazies that believe the conspiracy theories walk among us (just check some of the comments here).
To clarify, this is an initiative to encourage access to essential amenities (schools, supermarkets, parks etc.) within a 15 minute walk from your home. To reduce the need for people to have to travel across town to access basic necessities.
NOBODY is going to prevent you from leaving your neighbourhood. Nobody even will give a shit. Do you think the police are suddenly going to magic up hundreds of thousands of extra personnel to patrol neighbourhoods and millions of pounds of funding just to stop us all going to the Asda out of town?
What world are these people living in?!
The concept of ‘low traffic neighbourhoods’ is to avoid areas becoming rat runs, and to instead encourage people to use ring roads or public transport to get across town. I thought NIMBYs were against their area becoming a rat run?
Surely 15 minute cities would make their protesting even easier 😁
Marching to protest against walkable cities ?
While I can see why they want to do this it seems to be all stick no carrot.
Charging people because they work half an hour away from their home in a place not serviced by busses/trains ? Daft.
Charging people because public transport stops after a certain time and dosent start again until after you need it ? Daft.
You need to sort out public transport before you delve too deep into this shit but as usual the knobheads in charge think they can push through any old shit without spending on the required improvements first.
So thousands fell for a BS conspiracy theory?

British education is very poor.
The initial push back was the same in Groningen before it Became the cycle city the rest of the Netherlands followed.
This comment section is appalling. I’ve never been happier that Reddit is not representative of real life.
The self deluded insane people of the country have been politically activated now, so dumb shit like this is now just part of life going forward.
if you were really smart you’d be guiding them towards some more useful goals, turn them into the shock troops / cannon fodder for the eco-socialist revolution! or you know… a second season of Firefly or something.
How can a 7.5 ton truck get to those business if they block off all of the roads?
>Nobody has been consulted on this
>if they have it’s been ignored
Which is it then?
Water is both wet and not wet
Also as per usual, these “protests” are awfully well organised, anything with high-printed banners I’m always super suspicious of.
I suspect there’s some money behind some of the organising groups and it’s latched onto by the usual anti-covid anti-vaccine anti5G perpetually offended nutjobs.
Look how many of the signs are on the “Free man on the land” type. “We do not consent”
Same shit they were saying at antivaxx rallies, funny that.
The problem with LTNs and 15MC ideas is that they seem to translate into blocked-off roads and/or fines which just frustrate people and move traffic to already congested ring roads or bypasses. Implementation of the positive side like bike lanes, pedestrianisation, better bus services etc seems to be a distant afterthought that inevitably gets watered down or scrapped once the money runs out.
I have no opinion on this particular scheme as I don’t know the area but I do know that where I live in Hackney, London, the only roads that they block off to most traffic are where the rich live. As soon as you get to Stoke Newington Church street, which is super-hipster and expensive, suddenly its very quiet and clean. Just an observation.
It is astonishing how thick these people are. They think this is socialism or some plot by WEF when really it’s just something that would make anyone’s life better. This country is getting more and more conspiracy theorists who are or are on their way to joining the far-right
why tf are brits so good at fucking themselves up over and over again? it was funny but its just sad now
Imagine protesting against “people being able to get where they need to go in their daily lives quickly and easily”
As someone who is *really* pro walkability/public transport/cycling the anti-15 minute city people really piss me off. They’ve taken all the conspircy energy from the Pandemic and applied it to something that would actually help so many people to, well, basically force people to drive everywhere.
That sounds like one of those ideas that they had in Soviet Russia. If we do A then people certainly follow and Y will happen and everyone will be happy. You just missed like 20 letters, but yes, nearby roads won’t get jammed. Everything suddenly will materialize within walking distance including schools, preschools, work, shops, hospitals, parks… Public transport will magically start being cheap and reliable. Weather will improve to allow cycling 365 days in a year.
This whole idea is based on wishful thinking, ignorance and self entitlement.
The protestors banging on about dystopian control are total nutjobs, and the literature they’ve been pushing through the doors of Oxford citizens is full of conspiracy theory nonsense (they’re climate change deniers, quelle fucking surprise).
But lumping in all those people protesting is probably unfair.
I’m in favour of the *concept* of LTNs in Oxford, but the execution as currently planned makes no sense.
Bus travel for many areas of Oxford is fantastic, but not every area is that well served.
The current ring road and bypass roads are also already too busy at rush hour to accommodate more traffic. Botley road is one of these major access roads and it’s a fucking nightmare as is. It’s all well and good saying people can travel outside of their zone using the ring road, but if access to the ring road remains as poor as it currently is, then Oxford will crawl to a standstill.
Just wanted to point that out, based on some comments I’ve seen here. It would be a *huge* mistake for every progressive person to write off everyone opposed to these changes. The media is very good at pushing people into extreme camps, and this is a situation that definitely has quite a lot of nuance to it.
If a council wants to introduce a LTN to an area without proper public transport, the council should be forced to provide said public transport.
Blocking off roads in London is one thing as we have the tube and good busses but in rural England. The car is essential for people to get around.
The problem in the UK is mini Hitler’s work for the council and are determined to bend their will on the people.
Funny when the right do it they’re “exercising their right to demonstrate” and when the left do it they try to make it illegal

Coming to the slow realisation that this country deserves everything it gets

Given the way the media chose (in the recent trans book reader protest) to largely NOT point out that the protesters (‘Patriotic Alternative’) had an ideology that [HopeNotHate](https://hopenothate.org.uk/2022/08/05/stop-drag-queen-story-hour-a-new-far-right-campaign-emerges/) describes as “fascist” and
