There is no pay breakthrough. UCU are overegging it – the joint statement states that an impasse has been reached, not a breakthrough.
They’re also pissing off a lot of their members.
If you look at the various reports, there has been no breakthrough, all that has been “achieved” is to look at pensions, look at gradings, and maybe boost the lowest grades (though these folk aren’t likely to be in UCU) – all of which have been promised from day 1. I’ll believe there’s a breakthrough when the academics in the common room stop grumbling.
The strikes are just paused as far as I can tell. Still possibility of a ballot for further action.
