They need to start going after the parents of delinquents as well. Fines, taken directly from their social welfare for offenses.
Edit: The fairest way to do this is through children’s allowance as it’s given to everyone. Guarantee you the parents will be a lot more motivated to ensure their children aren’t out causing mayhem when it hurts their pocket.
A small bit of solace for the family of the woman.
Hopefully her family can take some relief from this ruling.

Just to clarify…. The teenager (17) got Life. Life does not mean life. In Ireland, it usually works out to ON AVERAGE 18 years. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower.
This “teenager” will be out in 12 years IMO. He’ll apply for parole and they’ll give it to him first time.
I hope he’s left alone, buried under the prison for the rest of his miserabele life

I know he’s only seventeen, but this was a totally senseless, horrible murder of an ordinary woman going about her business. The kid probably has a ton of mental and intellectual problems, but it’s for the benefit of both him and the rest of us to be locked up. He’s not safe to be out on the streets. Maybe he’ll get some treatment to help him become half-way normal, because I don’t give a fuck about “oh it’s the fault of society, oh poverty” and the rest of it, murdering people like this is not normal. There’s plenty of poor and deprived people who don’t do this shit.
Not going to bring anyone back unfortunately, but at least the scumbag piece of shit isn’t likely to harm others for the foreseeable future.

What seems crazy to me is how in the world did the first jury come back with mo verdict on the murder? I know we are not in the courtroom but it seems so clear cut, you don’t accidentally stab someone in the neck while robbing them. Was there any reason given that the first jury wavered?

I’m happy and honestly surprised by the life sentence. May she Rest in Peace.
