A typical scene every winter – clearing the road to Mala Crna Gora, one of the remotest villages in Montenegro

  1. The village is located in the Žabljak municipality in NW Montenegro. It had a population of 53 on the last census (2011). According to recent news, it is still permanently inhabited, including this winter. The only road to from the village to the town of Žabljak leads across an infamous mountain pass at 2050 m altitude, which has the largest amount of snowfall.

In April 2018 the road access to the village was famously restored after 5 months:

  2. Does the village name mean “little Montenegro”?

Don’t speak Montenegrin, but knowing Polish (and having some experience speaking with Czechs and Slovaks) I can more-or-less understand the text (or at least I think so ;). So to me, Mala Crna Gora looks like Little Black Mountain, which would be Little Montenegro.

Anyway, it’s cool to see the government not just giving up on the village. It must take forever to dig in there!
