Atheist edgy Redditors on what they’re giving up for lent.

  1. Even if you’re not religious, lent can be a rewarding personal challenge. Often when you try to do without something for a while, you come to the realisation of how much you actually rely on it. And there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of treating yourself to something after a sustained period of abstinence.

Having said that, I’m giving up sweets so that bastard Jesus doesn’t smite me down to the eternal gates of hell.

  2. I’m probably going off chocolate. Though to be fair it seems a bit redundant seeing as it was Mary that presented the recently reanimated Jesus with chocolate eggs as a sign that there was now an abundance of pancake loving bunnies invading Jerusalem… that it?

  3. Have an uncle. He gives up the sauce every year for lent. His father was an alcoholic and gave it up entirely in his youth. So my uncle spent his whole life using lent as a litmus test for seeing if he was an alcoholic. If he couldn’t make it through lent he’d have to give up entirely. Respect the hell outta him for the commitment and the personal responsibility. He’s not religious at all.
