Great to see the average working family left out again. In a country with close to 100% employment and companies crying out for staff, unemployment payments should be cut and redistributed to groups like carers etc.
Fair enough so
€100 extra to the back to school allowance also
A total joke that they extended the VAT rate when they know fine well it was never passed on to customers.
Can’t believe they bottled putting the VAT back to 13%.
Also €200 for long term welfare recipients but nothing for working people? Not great

Single people who work can go fuck ourselves per usual.
Just give the kids a 100 euro for north face shop instead
Canada Goose to report record Q2 earnings.
How come mods dont ban these posts for repetitive content yet I asked any funny things you’ve seen at Irish music festivals and it gets insta bans. .
Third post I’ve seen regarding this today and there will be more
This is great news. I am just so happy that people who prefer to sit on their Ass all day doing nothing, get more benefits while i get to work 40 Hours a week to help pay for it. It is truly one of the greatest cost of living packages we have recieved.
Throw a few quid at the public and let them fight amongst themselves!!! They’ll leave us alone and give us votes!
We need longer term plans to tackle this shit from the route by those in charge. They can’t just throw some of us money and expect that to help in the long term???
They’re already furthering the divide between social welfare recipients and working people. But in a few weeks we’re all still going to be in the same position as we are now!! People still can’t find places to live and our healthcare is still being pushed towards privatisation!
Scary times
Great see fuel costs going back to insane prices by end of the year
Or how about not increasing excise duty?
So a single forever dole mom with 3 scrotes get €500 while a working couple no kids gets nothing.
That is really going to help encourage people to make the right decisions with their life!
Are there any more energy credits coming? That discount off my last esb bill came just at the right time… But my next bill is due any minute. 😭
Tired of the hospitality industry getting handouts when they are never passed onto customers in the form of lower wages or employees in the form of higher wages
Absolute joke!! Clowns running this country. Think I’ll quit my job I’d be better off
So when are these payments coming in? I wouldnt mind that child benefit bonus soon
Misleading title.
It’s not for *all welfare recipients*.
> €200 lump sum for pensioners, carers, disabled and lone parents among measures
As a single parent who has only recently exceeded the income threshold for the working family payment I only get the €100 child benefit, which goes straight into state savings. The fact I can do that though speaks to how much better off I am than I was a few years ago. I’ve had to cut back on things but I’m lucky to be able to do that and not go without. That’s not something I could have said when on social welfare so I am definitely happy to see those who need the extra support the most are getting it.
Having said that, I am incredibly lucky with my rent. Someone else in a similar situation to me but paying current market rent has to be struggling to make ends meet every week. This round supports does seem to have excluded a cohort of workers who are just about the thresholds for supports, and who over the last year have likely eaten into what emergency savings they had.
I can definitely understand people’s frustration but there’s no need to be directing it at those who have gotten support because I can assure you they really do need it. Yet again the issue is with housing. From what I can tell, it’s the extortionate cost of housing is what is crippling middle income workers and no amount of welfare recipients going hungry is going to improve that.
Rural Ireland getting screwed again, the greens have to go next election

Well thank god they solved all problems with this
What a joke extending the VAT rate for hospitality… Stop the world and let me off… Fuck this shite
Yeah and one post is enough no? Didn’t know r Ireland is about breaking news of a vat rate staying the same and dole claimers getting a bonus
It’s like the government thinks people working hard but on low income with no kids in this country don’t exist
Hurrah. Me working full time and I make exactly double of the dole amount per week. I can’t wait for these great benefits to enrich my life
Someone explain to me why private for profit business (eg hotels and restaurants) deserve a VAT break from the government. What is the logic?
