Once off, or an addition to the weekly payments? Not that it matters much to me
How about a percentage cap on power providers earnings? We heard today that wholesale prices fell by 50% and we are still paying mad prices… not to mention natural yas and oil prices – all lower than year ago, before war broke out…
Nothing for workers with no kids, classic 👍
They need to start means testing this. There are loads of people who need the supports and others who absolutely don’t need them.
I know the excuse is that it is more expensive to means test than just pay it to everyone, but that was the excuse for covid payments, the energy credits etc etc.
Also fuck the hospitality sector who have absolutely ripped everyone off for the last year while playing the poor mouth
Edit- some absolute cretin reported this as a “self harm/suicide” post
Didn’t the government make a big deal about how they’re not giving a double payment to welfare recipients just last week? This is essentially a double payment. Interesting uturn on that
“All welfare recipients receive an extra €150 in their weekly payments”
Is that a one off or is that a weekly extra payment alongside the €220? The article makes it sound like it will be a weekly payment.
Great, keep giving more to people on benifits and nothing to the workers funding the handouts.
So frustrating.
4 kids, one in leaving cert, 3 in ucd.
All 18-23. So no “children” 🙁
Lovely, I’ll just paytalmost 1500 a month in tax and get nothing in return. I love when other people benefit from my hard work.
I thought Leo was a Taoiseach for those who “Get up early in the morning “
But this is just applying a plaster to a wound. Why tf aren’t they doing something longterm that helps everyone?
If companies are still making millions and billions in profits, then there needs to be sanctions. Why aren’t the government taking control of the situation.
Ffs every1 is struggling not just the scumbags at home to lazy to work, shocking to think all those lads from ballyfermot today will be getting a nice little bonus while I’m getting taxed to Fuck working 60hour weeks
Workers’ bonus would be good. Get €100 or €150 back more than you usually get. Keep 51% instead of 50%
All they had to do was give something to people who are working as well, keep everyone kinda happy. But no the usual, if your working you don’t need it which is absolutely not true.
Same shit different day! Sure the workers don’t need help!
As long as ‘children’ is people living with their parents up to 42 years old, seems OK.
Grumple grumple I work a job and hate when welfare recipients get anything. After all, there all free loading hoboes. Forgetting about the people on disability/carers and other forms of welfare. Noooo, It’s just all those filthy dole losers.
€150 quid for welfare recipients, €0 for the person working behind the counter likely on minimum wage in the post office paying out their dole, €0 for the clerical Officer on feck all in the DSP processing their “entitlements”, there’s something broken in this country…
Every time the dole is even mentioned, everyone on r/ireland seems to become dyed-in-the-wool Tories immediately.
And of course, not one of you will take this supposed “easy life” of going on the dole, will you?
Not in ballyfermot I hope.
Love how fuel will Increase in price for winter when it’s always at its most expensive.
Paying VAT on essential services like electricity is absolute bullshit.
One question to literally anyone complaining, would you trade your current situation to living in a situation where you would qualify for these benefits? Namely being a pensioner, carer, disabled or a lone parent.
Because if you wouldn’t – there you go, you figured it out.
Can people not read? It’s *not* an extra bonus for all social welfare recipients. It’s for pensioners, carers, and people with disabilities.
You all love taking shit on people on benefits. These are the most vulnerable people getting this payment ffs. People with jobs aren’t struggling in the same way someone on disability might be-maybe try surviving on €880 a month before you talk smack on people who need the most assistance.
Playing devils advocate here. And have to admit some bias as I’m a home owner with a kid. Weird that I should declare I’m a home owner with a massive mortgage as a good thing but that’s the state of our rental market.
Anyway, 600 euro committed in electricity credits is still pretty generous if you consider it as after tax income the gov has essentially given the average earner a 2.4% salary bonus for the past year. I can only speak for myself but that’s a bigger bump than my employer offered.
I hope the 150 includes CE workers. They keep getting fucked over by this gov
Did anyone read the article before complaining?
I want all ye moaning to care for a disabled child alone for 24 hours and get paid €30 for it. You would be begging to go back to work.

No worries, I’ll just be working away here for fuck all
Interesting that they’ve rowed back on a double payment and the hospitality VAT rate.
No mention of excuse duty either – surely they’ll delay it if they’re delaying hospitality…
Edit: [Tomorrow’s plan also includes €100 of an increase to the back-to-school clothing and footwear allowance](https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/1627783578346979330?t=iQ8I70XanyiMmieDPtJFiA&s=19)
So disappointed about the €200 electricity credit
