Britain’s economic trajectory will soon see it overtaken by Poland, Starmer to warn | Politics News

  1. And Starmer plans to fix this by… keeping the UK out of the EU and single market and following the same economic polices as the Tories.

  2. Oh, what a tragedy! the UK being overtaken by those backwards eastern poors! And why is he not comfortable with young brits leaving for Warsaw or Munich? I thought immigration is inherently a good thing and if you are against it, you’re an evil biggot or something

  3. The UK had the highest growth rate in G7 in 2022.

Not only that, but Poland has a demographic crisis, an inflation crisis, and soon probably an industrial crisis as well. And has half of the UK’s population and GDP per capita.

In order for Poland to overtake the UK it should have 2x its GDP per capita, as in, being richer than Norway, AND consistently growth at Chinese like rates for decades.

    In short, it’s unadulterated horseshit.

What’s the point of articles like these other than circlejerking?

  4. To be honest if you want to beat Poland at PPP, just build a fuck tonne of houses. WhatsApp me if you need more deets, Keir xx

  5. But i was by labour and conservatives that importing tens of millions of people and suppressing wages would make us rich beyond our wildest dreams

  6. The UK has a weird superiority complex about Poland. Because it sees them as the ‘nation of builders and fruit pickers’. Fact is, Poland deserves every ounce of its success which has been a long time coming. It’s had decades of gradual investment in infrastructure, education, and a population that was willing to travel far and wide for employment and learning opportunities. Now it’s reaping the benefits. Meanwhile the UK has been withering under austerity and a preference for London financial services over the actual people who live here.

  7. Starmer: ‘With Labour, we will not go back into the EU. We will not be joining the single market. We will not be joining a customs union. We will not return to freedom of movement…’

Same tory bs, but from, ahem, ‘different’ party

  8. >He is set to add: “I don’t want a Britain where young people in our great towns and cities are left with no option but to get out.

    >”A brain drain, not just to London or Edinburgh, but to Lyon, Munich and Warsaw. That’s not the future our country deserves.”

lmao it doesn’t feel nice when the shoe is on the other foot, does it Sir Keir?

  9. * “OVER THE NEXT FEW DECADES”

It’s important to mention that, right now, a lot of the goods in Poland are more expensive than in countries of our Western neighbors (or at the same price) – which comes as a shock since the average salary is ~50%-40% of Western countries.

It is not all ‘rise and shine’ here.

  10. I for one welcome the British skilled labourers about to build some roads near Wrocław for less than minimal wage /s

  11. I mean, despite weird choices I wish Britain all the best and if we can surpass them by becoming even better economy, why not. But not because their “trajectory” is this bad (it isn’t). It’s a fairy tale anyway.

  12. Almost every country in eastern Europe will overtake the UK in the next 15-20 years.

GDP means fuck all when you can’t get an ambulance, or a doctor, have shit in the rivers, and empty shelves in supermarkets.

With the highest energy bills in the world, double mortgage rates, the dumbest politicians in history, and no industry left, the UK is on the path to becoming the sick man of Europe, again.

  13. It’s a well known fact that countries like Poland will take approximately 1 to 2 generations to get up to speed. It’s been 30 years already [almost 2 generations]. No sensationalism here. Britain is just one of the countries to experience this.

  14. Trajectory and ranking is not the same. I dont see Poland being top 10 worldwide economy. It would have to overtake Italia, Russia and France before passing UK.

  15. China – becoming the #1 largest global economy

Poland – Powerful central european state

Germany – Allied with Poland in a war

Ukraine – exists separate from Moscow

    Britain – backwater

The world is going back to the good old Medieval Order.

    Saxony-Lithuania for the win.

  16. And all Starmer’s rightwing Labour are offering is more reheated Thatcherism/Reaganomic neolib ideology/”solutions”…So how exactly is Starmer going to rectify Britain’s downward economic trajectory and improve the living standards of the common people?..

  17. Oh no, not Poland, that awful country where over 80% of households are owned by their residents (vs 65%), or where the murder rate is 0.7/100k (vs 1.12).
