The Swiss Army is a nation now? Should we be worried?
Why is it “despite”?
Bicycles are a pretty good tool for transportation in mountainous terrain. “Mountainbike” is a thing after all…
never heard of ‘mountain bikes’?
What do you mean “despite”? A bicycle is a good way to travel on mountain paths and roads that may be partially blocked by snow or rocks, and it is more easily concealable than a bigger mean of transportation (which is relevant to the swiss defense strategy). It’s also immune to the lack of fuel (relevant because Switzerland has to import it all), though I guess they could have electric bikes now.
I guess you are referring to how exhausting it is to bike in mountains, but soldiers will get tired anyway.
You’ve not heard of mountain bikes?
What is that boxy thing under the saddle? Between back wheel and frame.
Are there a lot of small retractable tools hidden inside it?
No suspension at all?
No disc brakes?
Catalogue bike that.
I’d prefer a yamaha equipped ebike if shit got wild
I want it!
I wish I had a bicycle.
This is great for mountainous regions like Switzerland. Trying to ride around a corner in a flat country like the Netherlands, that bag in the middle will get you blown half across the road as it will act as a sail.
Uphill slow, downhill fast. Good news is you usually start uphill if you’re swiss.
Tactical bicycle
Believe it or not, but the entire country does not tilt at a 45 degree angle, most of the vital parts are not placed on the summit of alps.
Classy af!
> Military normally doesn’t have budget problems
Going a little “howdy partner” there bud?
Wow. Gorgeous saddle. This kind of saddle is the greatest bike saddle I’ve ever had. Not joking. There is nothing more comfortable for seating on regular bike.
Still the most efficient transport vehicle, that exists. Also in the mountains.
The Netherlands and Switzerland about to combine forces. We better watch out

it even has different speeds
if it could be folded it would be legendary
Here is the modern one: [http://www.velobility.net/portfolio_page/bicycle-12-swiss-army-bike/](http://www.velobility.net/portfolio_page/bicycle-12-swiss-army-bike/)
The one shown here is very, but really, very heavy.
It looks much easier to use in hilly terrain compared to the old Swedish M/42 bike – single gear and weighing 26 kg…

Just one?
Don’t most armies have bikes?
Finland and Sweden do, at least.

Seems they go for about 600 CHF used.
