King Charles heckled by ‘Not My King’ protests at royal engagement

  1. Love this, the Monarchy should be abolished, as it’s been made abundantly clear, it does not give two fluffs about its people… Biggest dole dossers in the UK.. That and I’m convinced the king is also a pedophile.. Him and Jimmy Saville being good buds and Prince Andrew being goods bids with Jeffrey Epstien… How much more obvious does it have to be..?? Forget the conspiratorialist angle.. Anyone with half a brain can see, that it stinks to the high heavens..

  2. The monarchy and the rest of the ruling class have been oppressing English people for over 2 thousand years

They need to be dealt with

So do the idiots who worship them

  3. Seriously you could wire me up to all sorts of machines, flash up a picture of the king and you wouldn’t measure a reaction. Flat lines all round. Some people do get very angry about it though.

  4. Well, he *is* their king- and that’s the problem. You can’t claim to be a true democracy when the position of head of state isn’t a democratic one, and the person in that position holds actual power.

  5. Fair enough. Even less people elected him than elected our PM and our PM was only appointed by his corrupt mates when his predecessor crashed the economy and lost to a lettuce. We are not a democracy.

  6. Met him briefly at work last year when he opened a new ward. He seems like an OK guy but that does not mean I like the idea of him ruling over me. We don’t need a monarchy and the Queen’s death was the perfect time for us to discuss whether we should abolish the monarchy once and for all. They are nice for soft power but it was the Queen that people loved, not Charles, losing her is going to weaken our soft power considerably over the next few years. Once that has gone, what do we need the royal family for?

  7. Let’s be honest, if we went for a dull generic president I really doubt the person voted in would be much to their taste either.

  8. Perhaps if he paid inheritance taxes like every other billionaire then they would appreciate him.

As he spends most of his time lecturing and dodging taxes it is no wonder people despise the crooks.

  9. Love how this thread makes it sound like it was a huge protest but it was actually just 20 people drowned out by the crowd. The republican movement in the UK is a joke.

  10. Doubt he will lose any sleep. The steps his mother took over the years seem to have secured a lot of moderate support in the UK for constitutional monarchy.

  11. Yank media running a “story” on a couple of dickheads with signs among a crowd of almost entirely supporters of the monarchy is about on par.

  12. I’m actually for the Monarch right now, Trump, Xi Jinping, Putin, Kim-Jong-un – being a republic isn’t all its cracked up to be. And Boris as head of state? No thanks.

The monarchy are still polling very high (Bar Haz and Megs and Mr Pizza Express), they are a part of the fabric of this country. As long as there is a sun, there will be a monarchy.

  13. I like having an unelected head of state. It’s not like he holds any power. Not sure it’s worth people’s time to be upset about.

  14. Would they prefer we had a president a la the US, such as Donald Trump or Joe Biden? At least our monarchy has some dignity, albeit much less than it used to.

  15. OK, we’re supposed to be a proper country here…. (Checks list)…. says here we need a head of state, any sensible ideas we can all rub along with and not have over a third of the people detest as soon as they hear about it? Cos much as I’ve disliked the Royals over the years (40 plus & counting) I’ve yet to look at an alternative country & think “That’s the system we need” – though that may be down to my own ignorance/lack of attention
Once upon a time it was much more than “dislike” but I sort of got used to her Maj & developed a grudging respect for the job the House of Lords do & how little they cost (relatively)

  16. Okay let me think

An unelected old man who is head of state but realistically doesn’t have any power, he is an economic benefit to us, he is A-political, in general is a force for stability, we don’t have to vote a new one every few years meaning we don’t have to be at eachother throats during the elections, a majority approval rating is more often than not guaranteed

    Vs

An elected career politician who is head of state and realistically holds more powers a monarch does and yes uses them on a regular basis, they are an economic drain, they are extremely political, in general causes division, mass protests, riots and mostly leaves more than half the country unhappy, we have to spend millions voting them in every few years and yes we will be at each others throats during that election and likely for the entire presidency, and a majority approval rating is extremely unlikely. They are also almost guaranteed to be from a rich family

    Hmm 🤔

  17. Much like the Brexiteers, republicans don’t seem to have a clue what goes in the middle of;

    1. Remove monarch.
    2. ???
    3. Profit!!

I’ve yet to see a plan for what changes would be required (and let’s be honest here, the changes required to our legal and poltiical systems would be enormous), and what the actual material benefits (and drawbacks – including the opportunity cost to spending the time and money on other issues) of the change would be.

Until then I will happy remain pro-status quo.

  18. So, 20 people vs a big crowd of well-wishers?

A small vocal minority, trying to ruin it for everyone?

    Does sound like the internet.

  19. People who want to abolish the Monarchy really need to inform themselves of the political advantages of having a Head of State which is ceremonial, but still having some checks and balances but is not voted for. That divorce is very important.

I won’t go fully in the details as really it from experts rather than my paraphrasing will stand you in better stead.

  20. I’m guessing it must be a slow rant day in green n pleasant. Looking at this thread, a number of them seem to have crawled out of their echo chamber.

  21. Predictably brigaded comment section is predictable and brigaded; oh look, it’s a bunch of G&P users – the subreddit that’s nothing but a radicalisation portal for vulnerable individuals. Who’d’ve thunk it! I love the nonsense idea that we’re being oppressed by the monarchy in modern times, and all the other ridiculous leaps of logic on display here!

Thankfully, a couple of hundred people on Reddit talking shit – many of whom aren’t even British – doesn’t exactly define the public discourse, or represent the reality of the UK or its sentiment towards the monarchy.

Meanwhile, our tax-dodging Prime Minister has twice as much money as the Monarchy, and his party is systematically destroying the UK and selling it off to the highest foreign bidder but yeah – the real evil is the Monarchy, lets dismantle it and redistribute its wealth to the nation! That’ll fix the problem! lol, smh

  22. This comment section is a train wreck, support for the monarchy remains extremely high in the U.K. people just seem to be following a bandwagon of hatred for no reason, what has his majesty done thats bad for the country?

  23. The most stable countries have a royal family. Haven’t you noticed? King Charles, the third is definitely my king.

  24. I’m not a royalist by any means, but since Brexit I’m cautious of political campaigns that claim to be acting for the unwashed masses.

Personally, I’ve never really felt “oppressed” by the Royal Family. I also feel like having Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak or David Cameron as SUPREME LEADER sounds more terrifying.

At the end of the day, the plebian snake oil salesmen sitting in Westminster are still making all the real decisions. If you’re going to protest, go after the energy firms, big pharma, and tax dodging companies. Removing the monarchy won’t change anything because they are not your real oppressors.

And even your oppressors are just trying to make money, by selling you nice things like iPhones and Amazon Prime 😂

  25. Well it begins, the final outcome of this type of movement is an authoritarian Tony Blair type as president who’ll be many times worse that a figurehead of a king. We really don’t know when we are better off.
