There’s no rush for either Sweden or Finland ascending to NATO proper. (Actual) Security guarantees are in place and they already participate in NATO exercises as is. This would simply be a formality and would legally bind them to every NATO Article (including the ever-elusive Art. 5) to not only benefit from themselves in such an event but also be legally obligated to come to another’s defence…
For this reason I don’t see why Turkey/Hungary is even stalling for lol. On the one hand, if Hungary does a 180, leaves NATO (one could hope but it would also be bad) and effectively forms a bridge of Russian influence from Belarus – congratulations. On one side you are surrounded NATO states and on the other you have Ukraine which is an ally. Strategically Hungary would/should be known as no-man’s land.
All this… because old men suddenly have an issue with their egos and want to consolidate power for as long as they can… 🤦
