It’s about time! What that family has been put through is inexcusable.
Rightly so.
Even if she is found not guilty of killing him she needs to face some shit for essentially ducking out.
Presumably because it sounds like we’re giving them Julian Assange?
Yes what she did is inexcusable, but is it really worth agreeing to extradite Assange over?
A single episode of dangerous driving by someone with a clean record is pretty much a guaranteed slap on the wrist here, fleeing the country to destroy your (and your husbands) covert career and causing a minor diplomatic and huge public relations disaster was such a stupid fucking move.
It’s like the US has this uncontrollable reflex where any US citizen facing any kind of justice abroad must be immediately whisked home because facing justice is… bad and pissing off your allies is fine – despite the incomparably massive US prison population.
And about time! I’m so happy for his family who have fought for this to happen for years, hopefully justice will prevail.
>She will appear via video link
So she’s not actually coming back here and facing justice. What if she’s found guilty? Theres no way the US will extradite her, so theres no way she can be sentenced.
She’s still getting away with it- I can’t believe how much contempt she’s showing our justice system and that poor family.
A) Sacoolas won’t get a fair trial. She sort of saw to that herself so many will consider this a moot point.
B) Appearing via videolink whilst located **outside** of the jurisdiction of the court sets a dangerous precedent. It tells suspects with means that they can run and then still enjoy the benefits of a defending themselves with no penalty for flight — as opposed to the correct position of being tried in their absence.
Obviously many will argue that this is better than nothing. They would be wrong. We should not compromise our justice system to aid those who flee. If Sacoolas was jailed for four years…would she return? No. If she was fined would she pay? Yes. So that’s exactly why this is wrong, she gets to flee and cherry pick her punishment application.
Right after we give the US Assange, pretty obvious some horse trading is going on behind the scenes.
I’m curious to know what evidence they’ll be able to produce (on either side) to support this case.
I understand she’s only appearing by video link, but I have nothing but admiration for the parents of Harry Dunn. They have been so strong and so determined in their pursuit of some form of justice. Nothing can make up for the loss of their son, but I hope they are able to get some measure of solace from this process.
There is no way she is NOT getting a slap on the wrist. Especially if she was part of the Assange deal I am sure US negotiators made sure she sees no jail time or anything more serious than getting banned from driving in the UK and few thousand pounds fine.

Good on Harry’s family for pursuing this, hopefully they will get the justice they’ve been fighting for.
Is it right I’m annoyed we’re extraditing Assange but they are not extraditing Sacoolas?
Cases like this and the Nazanin one really bother me because it’s just so unfair that ordinary people can be caught up in these high political games that they have no control over. I would love to see Anne Sacoolas going to jail but I won’t be getting my hopes up
The only way this makes sense, is if a positive conviction is obtained and then a civil law suit can be lodged in the US. The only flaw is that poor Harry will be converted into monetary value. Sacoolas will never face jail time and the US has no extradition agreements, protecting US citizens, whilst being able to extradite persons deemed to have wronged TO the USA…
I get it now… We bpwed to US extradition requests if they could get Anne Sacoolas to pantomime going through a show trial where she can’t be found guilty.
Got it.
That’s interesting. Assange is finally extradited to the US and the US has finally allowed to release Sacoolas. Almost as if this was a trade-off.
Wonder what else was on the table we all don’t know about…..Our health care perhaps?
She will hopefully get sentenced and therefore be unable to travel without being arrested and extradited. They might offer reduced time so she can choose between the options. If she chooses to not take the deal I would imagine if she travelled she would get the book thrown at her. Messed up but Americans think they are above everyone else. The arrogance to flee the country like she wasn’t guilty. If she wasn’t guilty she wouldn’t have run.
This sets a very bad precedent. I know I’m going to be in the minority here, and people are going to be complaining about how there’s no justice. But diplomatic immunity exists for a reason. Making an exception “so justice would be served” is going to have long lasting ramifications, and I would feel considerably less happy were I a British diplomat (or particularly their family) in a foreign nation right now.
I feel so disgusted with her behaviour I don’t know what to do with the energy. How can someone be so awful?
Radio 4 report this morning said her Lawyers said its not happening. :O
Call me a cynic, but the news of Harry Dunn’s case is somewhat related to this other one^1
**1.** “The International Trade Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, has warned the US the UK could step up retaliatory measures if punitive tariffs on UK steel exports are not lifted soon.” https://www.bbc.com/news/business-59597310
And all she get is a light punishment, one where she basically gets away with it because the US is fiercely protective of it’s citizens to the point where it would go to war, even if the person was guilty of doing it. Such as, Anne Sacoolas. Had she not fled and stayed, she would have gotten a slap on the wrist, fined and license removed, be forgotten about.
