Oh wow, it’s 2023 and we’re still bitching about this.
Listen, weebs, that’s not gonna change regardless on what goes on anywhere else.
It’s not a quid pro quo game, it’s legislation. If you want this to end, make sure the redneck party gets absolute majority, and if memory serves, that’s 134 seats. Nobody else is going to vote with them on this.
So, dream on kids. Try to cope on your way out.
Thank you for reminding me it’s enough internet for one day.
Afaik Swedish has one of the most incomplex grammars in Europe and Finnish has one of the most complex/sophisticated grammars in Europe. Finnish have more grammatical cases than even the Slavic languages. Even though either language would be appear to be different and hard from either opposite point of view, if we as swedes are not taught with some rigour from an early age I am guessing it would be *very* hard for us to learn, but who knows..
Wait until you see the ratio in Ireland.
9 Years they tried force teach me swede🤮. This is all i got: “Jag heter homo peter, jag imppar Erikeepper.”
It seems very weird to me, been reading some Finnish history since I moved here.
– The Swedish were the ruling class and Finnish was seen as a second class language.
– Swedish was the language of government, politics, high class. Finnish was the language of the peasants.
– A transition movement began starting with the independence from Russia, so Finnish finally began to take on strongly.
– Swedish was still the language of government, and students were endorsed into Swedish; however the opposite occurred and the identity instead became stronger, so Finnish took over and stopped being a second class language.
– Swedish speaking populations still held a lot of power so they ensured that all the matters could still be conducted in Swedish, they also made it a requirement for a lot of high power positions to have Swedish as a requirement; which most people don’t speak.
– Fast forwards 2023 and you still need at least some Swedish for positions of power, and Swedish speaking Finns still retain a lot of power and are overall slightly more affluent.
Okay having to learn Swedish is one thing, why not!… but I am not sure that is the unfair part is the “having to learn Swedish” part.
That’s because the Swedish speakers in Finland have money and the Finnish speakers in Sweden don’t.
It’s fine. Finnish is a very sophisticated language. It’s not for everyone.
I tried to learn swedish but i never learned, our teacher was a brick who expected you to learn easily because “ruotsi uppoo suomalaiseen kuin kuuma veitsi voihin”. The classes were the most boring class of the day and it was miserable and all my class mates agreed. Elva tolva luppakorva.
I don’t really have a say in this but I find it weird to name every single place twice, one name in Finnish and another in Swedish. Does it really matter to have a random street name in Espoo in Swedish too? Genuinely curious.
Nyt tais mennä suomenruotsalainen ja ruotsinsuomalainen väärinpäin herralla
The biggest problem woth both learning both languages is that there are no good teachers for it… im sorry if you arr a swedish/finnish teatcher but ive never had a good teacher in sny of them…
Boohoo, try having to be fluent in finnish even though you shouldnt need it
Here the most mind blowing thing, they make everybody have to learn geometry despite the fact that 0 percent of the population speaks geometry.
And also it’s pretty useless for most people (though ofc the discipline is useful)
Well Finland have 2 official languages Sweden has one, this meme is pointless
I think that Swedish people don’t have to learn Finnish and Finnish people shouldn’t have to learn Swedish. Majority of the population already doesn’t want to learn it. I think a lot of people would also want to learn some better language instead of Swedish.
Probably worth checking, which way the colonizing went
Yeah, swedish people are so weirded out that we have to learn sweden in schools
Given that Finland was part of Sweden for 700+ years I don’t think it’s super strange
Try being an English speaker and a lot of Finn speak English and you want us to learn Finnish. Something along the lines of 0.07% of the world population speaks Finnish.
The world is speaking English so we have a common language to communicate.
Yes, no one wants you to lose your language and we appreciate that you have your own. I’ve been in Finnish classes this week and it’s been a mind bending experience.
