People at Larissa’s main square waiting to donate blood after the horrific train accident.

  1. All I can say is start donating when you can. The idea is to donate blood *before* it’s needed, not when it’s too late.

That being said I’m proud of those people standing up in a time of need!

Further inspiration as to what you can do:
    – Become a registered organ donor, the gift of life.
    – Register as bone marrow donor (can be done none-invasively today)
    – Learn CPR including how to use a defibrillator or refresh it if it’s been more than a year ago since you last took a course.
    – Give way in traffic. It’s less stressful for everybody involved and people are less likely to speed and thus potentially get somebody killed.

  2. Remember everyone:

The blood that is given to people in need potentally takes weeks to go through screening. Donating blood in tragedies, or if someone close to you needs it, only works because there is already available blood on hand by regular blood donors, and the new blood eventually replaces the old.

I can’t stress this enough: The best way to help in situations like this is to boost the supply of blood in the healthcare system by being a regular blood donor if you’re healthy! Also… It’s INSANE how much blood injured need in situations like this. Every bit counts!
