  1. Finally a country that recognises this huge issue and try to find solutions. I hope others will follow

  2. To compare cows and pigs with cars is wrong. Cars are machines, you can reduce the emission to almost zero if you throw enough money and research at it.

Cattle are living mammals. You can’t redesign a cow. With breeding you can change a small bit, hence the insane amounts of milk they give these days compared to cows from 1850 but the amount of waste products from a cow ill always be roughly the same.

the best you can hope for is to invent better ways to process the shit, but it won;t go away

  3. In the Netherlands 116 million farm animals and 17 million humans live together on a piece of land the size of 7,5% of France. It is too much.

Most of these animals are meant for meat and dairy export. It doesn’t make sense for a country this small to produce that much meat for export…

Happy we can reduce the number of animals in a way that fairly compensates farmers for their damage.

  4. This doesn’t mean that Dutch people will necessarily consume less meat. It’s simply another way of outsourcing the dirty work to less developed countries. See: production of goods (mostly China and South/SE Asia), resource extraction (they closed all their coal mines in 1974), waste disposal and recycling (shipping it to Turkey, SE Asia etc). It isn’t anything that other developed nations aren’t already doing.

  5. We already have one that’s only on for research purposes and producing hospital isotopes, so they’ll spool that one up. Where they’re gonna build the second and how long that’ll take, idk.

  6. “We can’t be the tiny country that feeds the world if we shit ourselves,” said MP Tjeerd de Groot, from the Democrats 66 party, which is part of the coalition government in the Netherlands.

  7. Well yes, but no. The traditional unclear power plant you are probably thinking of, yes. There are newer smaller designs that take way less time to build.
