Can only believe him and accept he’s sorry. Maybe he’s a lunatic who knows but I do know I have to swallow certain amounts of rage when anyone was in any way physical towards my daughter. I remember launching into some little shite (verbally) when I saw him, funnily enough shoot a nerf gun at her. I’d say he was about 9 and she was 3. I remember his da looking terrified, my wife looking at me like id lost it and I honestly didn’t care 😂.. thankfully I pulled it together…..I guess what I’m saying is I could understand losing it and punching an 8 year old in those circumstances. It ain’t right and you’d be mortified after but I think there’s a primal shit that takes over. Plus I’d say there’s some left over being bullied yourself shit that comes out. Anyway she’s older now. I just teach her to do that shit herself now.

I wonder if the 8 year old did something more? I recall one 5 year old kicking my son in the face in a play area near a bar in Westport. This was whilst his parents looked on drinking. It was a real
Psycho move. But kids at that age can do stuff like that. I realised it wasn’t up to me to reprimand their child so I took my son away. Had I clipped their child I could have been in serious trouble but the kid might not have kicked someone in the face again.
He was not, in fact, a pacifist.

Does anyone know the context to this?
Obviously an adult that punches a child unprovoked would have to be mentally ill. However, a friend of mine (from Greece) used to live in a rough part of Dublin. One day there was a big group of kids and teenagers at the door of his apartment, and one of the kids spat at my friend’s girlfriend, so he reacted angrily. Suddenly he was attacked by a swarm of them, punching, kicking and throwing things. He lashed out to defend himself, but he ended up beaten black and blue. He said the group attacking him ranged from fairly young up to about 15. However, due to weight of numbers they were able to overcome a fully grown adult.
Something tells me this case is the latter, but we don’t have the context. Unfortunately I can imagine 8 year olds in certain parts of Dublin behaving in a way that they might get a punch in self defense
