Rishi Sunak: We must double down on Ukraine military support

  1. The good old military industrial complex. Big spends and no comebacks. Mostly. We don’t talk much about the arms we sell. Just like the US.

Because we all live in a dangerous world.

    Which we armed.

  2. Why is there always a blank cheque when it comes to defence spending?

When talking about nurse and teacher pay they say, ‘we don’t have the money and it can only come from taxes, so something else will have to suffer.’

Never seems to be the case when it comes to buy things that kill people.

  3. We should remember that of all our reasons for maintaining a military into this century, Russia is right up there as a leading reason. Therefore, we absolutely should be doing whatever we can to undermine Russia and their attempt at taking control of parts of Eastern Europe.

The bombs and bullets were made with Russia in mind, the only difference is that it’s not our soldiers using them, it’s not our soldiers dying on the frontlines.

  4. I’m not going to tell them to not, it’s a good cause. However it feels like they use Ukraine as a shield for their reputation.

  5. I swear if WWII kicked off in 2023 instead of 1939 you’d have people in the UK and the US complaining about sending munitions to France and saying they should “end the war” by surrendering to the Nazis.

  6. We’re teetering on the edge of World War Three: one wrong move and Israel moves on Iran, mainland China on Taiwan and I can’t think of a third example to complete my point. I really don’t fancy going head-to-head with the toilet paper hoarders in an Apocalypse scenario.

  7. Listen up Sunak, we got problems at home, strikes left, right, and centre, Energy bills through the roof, homelessness, NHS beurocracy and underfunding, the wretched Universal Credit system starting people, the fact that the educational system is worth garbage, Worthless criminal Police, Over paid MPs, school fees and the high cost of living

  8. Completely agree, never mind dealing with the energy companies making record profits while citizens struggle to pay for food, never mind the record number of public sector workers on strike, let’s pretend Ukraine can win this fight so we can sell more weapons, increase dividends, and move more public money into the hands of the 1%. For king and country!

  9. Christ I cannot understand how Ukraine is such a divisive issue. The situation isn’t just numbers on a spreadsheet – even though the numbers are very good on the spreadsheet – its people dying for a country they love.

Reminds me of how disappointing it was to see the politicisation of COVID.

  10. What about paying nurses a better wage, why are we always giving our money away. If memory serves me correctly I can’t remember any other country throwing money at us it’s always us giving.

Mr ‘give me more money’ Zelensky is a corrupt crook and terrible actor.

  11. Wanted to afford going on holiday, after 2 years of Covid, maybe had plans to buy a house, maybe to save for your retirement? Maybe you think the country can do better than 9,000 pounds a year on tuition fees for the new generation? Maybe you just want to avoid relying on food banks, at least.

Well too bad, our government has decided your life plans take a back seat, all to defend that country they have been arming in the East for the past half-decade, neither in EU or NATO, to make a dent against the bear.

Don’t worry, Comrade Zelensky tells us it will all be over by Christmas….

  12. We have people getting poorer by the day rishi, I know friends who are spending every penny on keeping their family warm and all the while getting northing in return, they are in the 19-22 year bracket. No time for education, no time for self improvement of any kind, they are stuck because of the decisions your government has made in the last 13 years

  13. This is coming from outside the U.K. but I think the U.K should really stay out of this and fix its own issues.

The U.S and the rest of NATO provide much more to Ukraine overall (Aside from the challenger, still a fantastic tank)

  14. WW3 for the sake of bellicose babyboomers who miss the cold war and want you to pay for it.

For those individuals, how about we allow contributions on a voluntary basis: They can either go and sign up for Ukrainian foreign legion, or maybe sell one of their buy-to-lets to buy 1/10 of a tank or a drone for them. Leave the rest of us out of it.

  15. If we’re going to “double down”, then invest in the necessary infrastructure to do so. Don’t whittle down British equipment stocks, expand production capacity so that we can send aid without weakening our own military.
