Actually it’s only half the aisle, to the right it went on to fancy multi coloured tomatoes.
How will we cope?!
Edit: spellin’
Edit 2: Fuck I meant 02 March 2023. I literally took this photo today.
How is it March already?!
Yep in Waitrose. I think the main issue is the shortage in Europe has driven the prices up, so the cheaper UK supermarkets can’t buy much at the (low) prices they’ve agreed to pay. As Waitrose is about 30% more expensive than say Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s they can and will pay more. If I was a tomato grower clearly I’d sell to those paying the most and only then to the companies that won’t.
Reddit also seems to be full of tales of €2 cucumbers in Germany (£0.79-99 in UK), and €9.99/kg peppers.
Are we really in a timelime where brits are posting pics from their grocery stores to show that there is in fact tomatoes…
I find that tomatoes in winter anyways tastes like cardboard.. So I only really like tomatoes during summer, when they actually tastes like something. So in winter I normally stick to winter vegetables.
[12K upvotes and counting… so yes fellow redittors are obsessed with this story… The post regarding Ireland running out got about 40 uptoots lol](https://i.redd.it/dkmeugirm9la1.jpg)
So do real actual people feel this shortage? It seems to have been on the news a lot over here in Sweden. Say, like, what’s the situation in Manchester for example?
lollll uk 1.60£ haha
romania 3 £ 😀😀😀
This was one month ago. How about now?
We should pay for plastic bags if we want to use and this is for good of the environment. On the other hand they cover all vegetables or fruit with plastic, what a nice approach. (Btw I am certainly okay not to buy or use plastic bags.)
Why is everything in plastic, that’s awful
edit: What’s up with these downvotes, is plastic so popular? Which countries?
The real travesty…. the amount of plastic.
Ffs why these tomatoes should be in plastic?????
There is more plastic than tomato my dear.
Need a copy of todays newspaper so we know it’s really from today
ok, I might be too continental to understand this picture
Weve got a shortage of mars bars in the Netherlands now. Shame were not Britain, so I cant milk it for reddit karma on this sub.
from the labels i can tell this is a waitrose so yes the veg shortage is massively overhyped but this is not the store to show it as they will pay whatever to get them in
I’m happy to see someone posted a photo. It is tiring reading like we’re in the mist of stock shortages as we were in March 2020 with hand soap, cleaning wipes etc.
Stock issues are definitely regional and time dependent, obviously you’re less likely to see fully stocked shelves in the evening.
Here’s a link to Aldi 🇬🇧prices. I shop there mostly and haven’t had an issues with stock. However, various products are creeping up in price (all over the store) on a weekly basis.
Wait, aren’t the British supposed to starve becouse of brexit? /s
What’s with so much plastics used?
Why are they all in plastic wraps though? That’s stupid af
It looks like it has tomatoes.
I mean Just because a store run out doesn’t mean the whole country is out .
Ffs In France I’ve never seen a shortage but sometimes I wish for . The price is 4 -5 € per kilo . Per kilo and that’s the cheap stuff .
That’s a lot and it’s been like this for a while .
How do we know this is real? We need today’s newspaper in the picture for the date, and a bendy banana for scale.
So? You guys can buy food at a supermarket? Good job?
What am I missing here?
Aisle, as in a corridor or path
(Isle is a small island)
One picture in one supermarket is hardly a great sample size.
Round and red. Just as we expected them
Is this before or after the Turnip Craze?
They’re not tomatoes, they’re red noses. We have no food, we’re all going to die.
Aisle
This post should be about unnecessary plastic usage…
