  1. Its needed reform for ever as its always been used to shut down regular people or independant journalists by the rich and powerful.

    The only difference is that this time it’s being used against the status quo rather than for it.

    The fact that the rich have had this at their disposal to make us peasants be quiet or face destitution honestly doesnt give me hope of any reformation however. It’s to powerful a tool for them to give up willingly.

  2. Tbh I’ve always thought our libel laws were pretty reasonable. I can see the arguments for both sides in terms of whether you should have to prove what you’re saying is correct vs them proving it’s not correct, but I don’t think either is objectively wrong.

    I mean, is it so unreasonable to say to a journalist that if they want to print a negative story about someone, they should be able to show it’s more likely true than not? One would hope they’d hold themselves to that standard anyway.
