Urban design in Kiew, 2023 (NOT colorized)

  1. Interesting camouflage pattern, I wouldn’t be surprised if some people got lost trying to find their home

  2. Just so you guys know – everyone here hates these. Not only they are just plain trippy – they’ve also been built with a lot of dodgy moves on the side of the building company(illegal acquisition of land en masse and other funny stuff in the Kyiv apartment building business)

  3. Houses look fine to me but maybe a metro going through the middle of the road would be nicer than some parked cars

  4. This is one ugly part of the district, the materials used were cheap, the wall crumble down, no transportation, the usual stuff with new private buildings in Kyiv. Unfortunately, land contracts corruption was never fixed

  5. This is a 2010 project. Now this developer has much better projects, still, some of them are even brighter.
People are very tired of gray Soviet buildings, probably that is why almost all our new buildings are colored or have murals

  6. To put an end to Kyiv – Kiev spelling:
We don’t care how you spell it in your languge as long as its not english 🙂 I think its spelled like the op wrote it in German, and in Polish its Kijów etc.
We do have cities like Vienna that have different names in other languages like Lviv (ua)-Lwów (pl) -Lvov (cz) -Lemberg (de) etc.
Why english specifically? because for many ukrainian cities the international names were pushed by USSR, means from russian transliteration that we are actively trying to get rid of. hence it would be great if you use correct ukrainian transliteration (like it is on [Google maps](https://www.google.com/maps/@50.3023906,31.2090261,8z)):
    ~~Kiev (Russian)~~ / Kyiv (Ukrainian)
    ~~Lvov (Russian)~~ / Lviv (Ukrainian)
    ~~Kharkov (Russian)~~ / Kharkiv (Ukrainian)
    ~~Odessa (Russian)~~ / Odesa (Ukrainian)
    ~~Krivoy Rog (Russian)~~ / Kryvyi Rih (Ukrainian)
    ~~Zaporozhye (Russian)~~ / Zaporizhzhia (Ukrainian)
    ~~Tarnopol (Russian)~~ / Ternopil (Ukrainian)
    ~~Rovno (Russian)~~ / Rivne (Ukrainian)

Its not obligatory of course, but please do not flame people that are trying to correct you, there a reason (currently very important) behind it. Thank you 🙂

  7. This is called the Godzilla Defense Aesthetic. The theory being that if Godzilla or other city-stomping monster were to attack, the buildings would be mistaken for Legos. Who in their right mind wants to step on *those*?

  8. Maaaybe if we add some trippy blimps for show and replace that parking lot with something more natural it could be nice / fun.

  9. All for making building brighter but by god, why does every architect lack subtlety? At least make the roofs have their original colours. Look to Prague for inspiration, even the colours are far better.
