The palette, especially for 1830 and 1840, is quite awful
Pointless choice of colors.
The first railway in Russia was actually only connecting Saint Petersburg with the tsar’s residence outside the city and not open to the public of course.
The second railway line connecting Moscow with St Petersburg was only opened in 1851.
Not sure where you get your dates from, but I don’t see how they are correct. The wikipedia page you link to says that in France the first line was operated in 1827, and I can only imagine that for Britain its earlier than that.
Not sure on the data here. The first steam train journey in the U.K. was in 1804 and the first commercial steam rail was in 1812
1830s and 1840s is for some deep color connoisseurs
For France, it’s 1827 for coil.
And 1837 for the first passenger line.
The data isn’t correct and the map is unreadable, well done op
Based albania
Data on Iceland is at least correct.
It is truly impossible to tell between the majority of EU states in this
Why
1830s* 1840s* etc
You may be thinking of the apostrophes in ’30s ’40s ’50s
Terrible color scheme

We still have the original railroads.
Well well well, if it isn’t Poland besting Switzerland in something, finally! In your face, Helvets!
The first railway on today’s territory of Romania was the Oravița-Bazias (1854), for freight traffic. The first railway built for passenger traffic was the Szeged–Timișoara railway, which connected Timișoara to the railway network in 1857.
According to sncf (French railways company), the first passenger train dates 1837. And 1827 for the very first line.
I’m not sure, but I think that on land of current Poland first was Warsaw-Virnna railway, and if that’s true, than accurate date for Pl would be 1845 ( opening first part Warsaw- Grodzisk)
*Kong Christian den Ottendes Østersø Jernbane* opened in 18 September 184**4** and was 31% owned by the Danish state.
The Merthyr Tramroad opened in 1802. It was 9.75 miles (15.69 km) long, and carried Trevithick’s locomotive.

The [Stockton and Darlington Railway](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockton_and_Darlington_Railway) opened in 1825. It still exists today as part of the [Tees Valley line](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tees_Valley_line).

Edit: spelling
I don’t understand how the colors on these types of maps are always so bad. If you can’t read it in grayscale, pick better colors. Easy check.
