Nice, having an EU wide license should make it easier to drive anywhere in the union as cops would just have to look at that one license regardless of which country the holder is from. Less hassle and less to worry about when driving in other EU countries
I dont believe that digitizing driving licenses will lead to an authoritarian regime.
If you own an ID card or a passport, your information is already digitized. Yes, even if you havent registered for an E-ID, infact, if you go try to register, it will probably fill in most details automatically based off the info in your ID card.
I understand your worries to some extent, but this specifically isnt really an issue, imo at least.

What I find unacceptable is that a certain audit firm that is the current favorite of the Labour Party is going on literally how they are going to create a digital version of 1984, in which they plan to play and important and lucrative role you can be assured.
Yet the same company is involved and getting paid to promote crypto and blockchain to colleague students. And they are also involved in offering Malta’s tax haven services and selling passports.
Maltese always had an ability to worship God and the Devil at the same time without batting an eye. Any shame or sense of hypocrisy is lost on them.
