  1. in Potenza a nec Donald closed because they all went to eat the schiacciata with tomato. unfortunately, with sandwiches for 1 euro, the Mac for the poor has also become a good alternative to Italian street food which is becoming more and more chic

  2. Interesting that. There is a McDonalds in Whitehall, London, near where I worked. The area attracts tourists from all over the world but the McDonalds was always full of young Italians. Never worked out why it was mainly Italians. Perhaps they are especially fond of McDonalds.

  3. Besides the point, but is there any such thing as an fast food outlet based on Italian cuisine?

Besides Pizza I mean and as a franchise, like McDonalds, Burger King or such.

  4. McDonald’s has quickly fallen out of fashion here in Italy, so I don’t know why they would think opening 200 more is agood idea. 10 years ago everybody went there on the regular, especially young people from all social backgrounds, but today the restaurant trends are much different. Sushi places have been the thing for the last 5 years, people enjoy kebab or various types of mediterranean street food or even high quality american burgers that don’t taste like shit like the McDonald’s ones do. And these things -apart from sushi- generally don’t cost much more than a meal at McDonald’s. If were to ask my friends if they are up to get a meal at McDonalds they would look at me like I’m some kind of weirdo.

The only McDonald’s places that have success are in very degraded or trafficed areas -like near train stations- and are full of people that unfortunately are at the lowest level of the pyramid, like first generation immigrants
