Cabinet meeting expected tomorrow as NPHET recommends 5pm closing time for pubs and restaurants

  1. “Go to work and then fuck off home, thanks”

It’s in the same league as “have an outdoor summer, but not like that”

Lowest hospitalizations in two months and we get more restrictions. I know omicron is an evolving element but nphet were all up for restrictions even before it was discovered. It’s just exhausting

  2. And yet that geebag Norma “suite of safety measures” Foley won’t close the schools 3 days early before Christmas – when kids actually do feck all learning in those 3 days before Christmas holidays

What in the name of lamp lightning jaysus is going on?

  3. I’ll see yis all the same time next year when the government are debating whether to leave pubs open for Christmas or not.

  4. Govt really are ghoulish if they follow this recommendation. Open enough to not warrant any funding but closed enough to not make any profit over the Christmas period.

They are potentially sacrificing what is probably our most recognisable industry on the fear that something MIGHT happen.

93% fully vaxxed and 50%+ boosted and this is what we’re getting. Make no mistake this will happen next year and the year after if someone doesn’t say no soon.

  5. Honest question but can the people of Ireland request a new general election early? I’m not necessarily for it but I think the uproar from this would be massive so

  6. My heart goes out to the hospitality sector, it really does. It feels like they are being blackguarded and blamed by NPHET at every occasion. What good is a 5pm closing to anyone? It’s a nonsense.

Things are gone fairly fucking bleak after it looking like we might be heading out of this thing.

  7. So not only is this a fucking ridiculous idea from a bunch of cunts who don’t know what they’re at, but closing at 5 while still “remaining open” is going to fuck over a toooon of people working in pubs and restaurants as they wouldn’t be able to claim PUP. It’s like NPHET see them and those who go there as fucking 2nd class citizens or something

  8. we’re 21 months into this shit now and for those few of us left clinging to the hospitality industry this is a kick square in the stones… a “curfew” means they don’t have to support us to close.

  9. Close at 5pm is the governments way of making it not profitable to be open at all so they will be effectively closing them down without actually saying the words. That’s if they cave to NPHETs recommendations.

  10. 5pm?! What’s the bloody point having anything open then ffs. Either let places fully open or shut it down. Stop with the absolute bullshit.

I have had a lot of patience with NPHET and the government. I’ve accepted restrictions, vaccines, the lockdown etc. but I’m honestly reached my tipping point now. Every fucking week it’s a different story. And no one, not a single fucking person in NPHET or the government has a fucking clue what they’re doing.

  11. The other day I had a review in work that didn’t go great, lack of general interest etc.

Honestly I’m a grown man and I felt like crying. I don’t really know how I could possibly be at my best right now, I’m just so very tired now… I look at this and it’s like this is just never going to end. I genuinely don’t know anymore what I’m working for in life.

  12. Lol what are those dickheads thinking? Ok, pubs and restaurants now close at 5pm. Guess what. Weekends are going to be mental, people WILL go out in the mornings, get wasted, a good bunch of them will head to someone’s gaff for an “after party”. It will NOT stop the spread.

Good luck with new restrictions, nobody cares anymore.

  13. Absolutely pathetic. People need to get out on the streets en masse if this goes through. All this policy will achieve is further crippling an already crippled industry, while practically encouraging people to have unregulated house parties instead. Beyond naive and beyond stupid.

  14. 5pm is fucking ridiculous. There’ll be queues in the bloody morning.

Well on weekends that is. I guess the dole patrol can enjoy restaurants in peace during the week.

  15. How the fuck does closing venues earlier and thus ensuring that more people gather in the limited time they are open actually solve anything? Can someone enlighten me?

  16. The 50% capacity thing really fucked over bands, musicians, all entertainers who are trying to start their career. Small venues can’t afford to be putting on even smaller shows. And if these new restrictions pass, it would make it even more improbable.

  17. I’m in the Netherlands and it’s been a 5pm close here for the last month or so, after being 9pm for a month or so before that. The governments of Europe have become sneakier than last year, and this is just a way to effectively close the entire horeca industry without having to pay them anything, as they’re just cutting back hours. I was working in a small cocktail bar, and there isn’t anybody who buys cocktails in the afternoon obviously, so I’m basically out of work without benefits, and the boss is down to being open 15 hours a week. It’s grim.

I’m coming home for Christmas and was looking forward to going to a pub again and meeting my people, it was the only thing keeping me hanging on. Oh well, maybe next year.

  18. So hospital numbers are going down, kids are getting vaccinated and the booster campaign has ramped up a lot. Schools are about to close for 2 weeks which will also have a big impact. Why do we need more restrictions?

  19. I feel like a pub owner had an affair with one of the partners on NPHET and now they have it out for the entire industry

  20. I went to London and everything seemed normal there. The only place I saw people wear masks was on public transport. Felt completely normal. I feel, Ireland is taking this a bit too far. Hospitalizations are coming down already and more restrictions aren’t going to solve anything.

  21. Why target the pubs and restaurants when you need to be vaccinated to go there?
Is there any point in being vaccinated if the govt. Are going to do suit like this?

  22. Slimy fucking move. Effectively telling them all to close their doors but they get away without having to actually say that.

  23. I’m just after agreeing to start a new job in January and now I’m already thinking of my options to go abroad, literally starting to wonder what even is the point of staying in Ireland because this government has shown time and time again that they do not care about the people here, especially those under the age of 35.

  24. Don’t know what’s worse, this stupid early curfew recommendation or the “this is good bc wE aRe In a PanDemIc” response from the doom lovers.

Hope government have the balls to pushback on this recommendation from NPHET. Too many livelihoods on the line.

  25. Will this also include the Dail Bar?

Still amazes me that they can lecture us about the evils of drink and access to cheap alcohol and they still have a bar subsidised by us no less.

Edit: Sorry was on a rant but did a little bit of research, not subsidised but still cheaper than what us plebs pay.

  26. Go to work, and fuck off, pay the rent aswell. while they fuck off down to the Dail bar and get driven home in a nice mercedes.

I fuckin cant do it anymore. Ive been locked inside for nearly 2 years, I was so looking for ward to my few pints and reading a couple books in the corner of my local. Not now anyway.
