Almost like violently oppressing the locals for centuries leads to a bit of resentment and resolve on their part.

Celebration of freedom for your own state, flag and language is completely okay. Every nation celebrates their sovereignty such as Turkey. but still holding a grudge against every turkish single individual and using a racist terminology to insult them is undeniably horrible. I believe our duty is to get rid of sick, racist mindsets that are celebrating millions of deaths and presenting the war as a holy, sacred thing. History should be thought not to hate, must be thought how to prevent wars and how to make peace among nations.
