If you treat an animal really well and it hangs around as a result, that’s “taming and then looking after an animal”.
Australia is planning to tame British doctors, police officers and teachers by paying them fairly and giving them reasonable working conditions.
Morally dubious to take trained professionals from developing countries. Australia should be ashamed.
I assume by using tactics such as “not freezing their pay”

>A sparsely-populated Australian state is to try and poach 31,000 British workers with the promise of high wages and a lower cost of living.
>A delegation from Western Australia will visit the UK later this month in a bid to recruit doctors, police officers and teachers.
>Australian officials are planning to stress that they can outdo low British wages, which have not risen across the board in real terms since the 2008 financial crisis.
Further reading:^2
>Australian workers are about to have twelve years of real wages growth wiped out in 3 years.
>By the end of 2024 the Reserve Bank now estimates that real wages will be some 5.4% below where they were in March 2020 just before the pandemic occurred.
>It means that at the end of 2023 workers will on average only be able to buy the same amount of items and services with their wage as they were 15 years earlier in December 2008.
>Twelve years of real wage growth will have been wiped out in 3 years due to 14 consecutive quarters of prices rising faster than wages – a truly awful collapse of living standards.
People in the UK complain that doctors make 80k (while also complaining that they can’t see a Dr due to the shortage), meanwhile Australia offers them 400-500k
Already loads of adverts for health workers in the UK from the state of Victoria on YouTube.
The Saudis / UAE / Bahrainians say “We wish you fortune in the talent wars to come.”
What about us IT workers? Wont take much to shove me there
My wife is a doctor in the NHS. She is in her late thirties. A lot of her age group are now consultants (she took some time out but will be a consultant soon).
Loads of the people she trained with in the UK are now in Australia or Canada. They get paid loads more, work less hours, and feel respected more. Massive difference in lifestyle for many of them.
Hard to blame them, but obviously it isn’t great for the UK if we are training doctors and then can’t keep them.
Good luck poaching our well paid well looked after doctors police officers and teachers.
Why would they want to move to Australia, live in a hot country and earn 3x as much.
If it’s anything like their attempts to recruit British Police officers – you’ll be posted in the remote towns and villages in the outback with few amenities, colleagues or social opportunities. You’re not rocking up to live in Sydney or Melbourne
UK has been doing this for years with doctor and nurses for Africa, India, etc….
Tables have turned is all….
I mean they put forward a really compelling offer.
Treated with respect.
Sunshine.
Professionalism.
Sunshine.
A dream for Toxicology work.
Sunshine.
Good standard of living.
Sunshine.
Good property rates.
Did I mention the sunshine?
And in return we get a slightly less expensive packet of Tim Tams. Whatever they might be.
Yeah but the trade off is living in a remote part of Western Aus hundreds of miles away from civilisation where your landlord is a kangaroo and your arse gets bitten by spiders every time you need a shit
Time to train as a teacher and get the fuck out of dodge.
As if the NHS doesn’t poach tens of thousands of workers from developing countries every year already.
Its not poaching if the current ‘owner’ is abusing them.
The Aussies, for all their faults, won’t piss about when it comes to housing them, either. They’ll build plentiful places for poached staff to live, and the process of buying is infinitely simpler than it is here. Oz has it’s faults, but in terms of bureaucracy, living here is virtually impossible in comparison.
Canada needs you too. We’re the better colony anyway ❤️
Do they need software developers? Where do I sign up?
Blame the fucking Tories please?
The Media (as always) will have a field day with this “ungrateful Doctors/Teachers/Police that we trained!!!!!”
If I did any of these three professions id be in Aus or NZ right now. I have 3 family members who are Doctors and Vets who left to Aus/NZ and they haven’t come back, no regrets.
We don’t have 31,000 British doctors, police officers and teachers to poach
Poach? I don’t think they’ll be taking them against their will
And they’ll get them because this country is going down the shitter, rapidly.
If there’s any accountants/auditors who work in public practice reading this – Melbourne needs you! We have a terrible shortage in the industry at the moment. I’m struggling to recruit at our firm. Pay has gone through the roof.
We used to do this to other third world countries.
The Tories and the British public that voted Tories and brexit have turned us into a third world country where most of the western world have better wages.
The way they are treated here who can blame them if they went.
Left the UK 10 months ago. Best decision ever. You don’t have to settle for low standards and low expectations of the Tories have for the country
As a doctor I cant wait to finish my training and move to Australia. Mood among doctors in nhs is very bleak, good will is ranning out. In 5-10 years time expect entire nhs ran on internationally trained doctors from India, Pakistan and Egypt.
Good pay, stricter immigration, nice weather, much more house for your money. What’s not to like.
I’m not a doctor but I do have a criminal record. I’m hoping that we can open another penal colony there sometime soon
Or people will go to a country that is willing to pay them a decent wage, give them decent working conditions and aid in them moving to said country.

Our Government constantly gives itself raises but deems the NHS to not be worth giving a raise. Teachers are expected to handle big classes. NHS doctors, nurses and other medical staff have shit hours. Some doctors have to work several days in a row with little to no rest. If conditions improved and we paid our essentiail service workers a good wage, they may want to stay.
Great! The Tories must be thrilled that “the market” is working as designed.
And if Australia successfully recruit 31000 health, education and police staff, it will prove that the reason the Gov had trouble getting numbers up was nothing to do with “people just don’t want to work”…
