The science museum is struggling as it’s free to the public, I’m sure they don’t want to take on these sponsorships but unless the government is going to step in then the museum will be gone sooner or later.
I really don’t get the objection, is the result of shell funding the science museum contributing to more oil extraction?
Science Museum (and other academic institutions like it) is in a hard place. They lack funds and such clauses damage their academic integrity, which lowers their reputation. Philanthropy – and in this case, arguably a business deal – cannot replace taxes.

Isn’t that normal for sponsorships? I genuinely have no idea, but best guess would be take our money but don’t crap on the brand or sector.
