France on strike: Unions say ‘non’ to higher pension age

  1. Garbage collectors, utility workers and train drivers are among people striking across France.

They are expressing anger at President Macron’s bill raising the retirement age to 64, which unions see as a broader threat to the French social model.

  2. во Франции накопительная пенсия или пенсии выплачиваются из налогов других граждан?

  3. My grandparents retired at 50. I didnt know this, but in retrospect, it made complete sense, how they could be on vacation for so long, living life and such, where my father retires at 60 in 3 months. Me? 65, if not later… waho

  4. I’m impressed by the number of butthurt comments of people not from France who seem to know better and stating without blinking that our system can’t work because “reasons”.

All the while our official Retirement Council found it was perfectly sustainable and even beneficiary long term.

All the while Billionaires are getting richer and richer, so there’s money if we really need a little extra cash for the greater good.

Also [our government] : “we absolutely need a few billions! Sure we give a few billions every year to companies as tax relief (CICE) and it’s been proven it didn’t create jobs, but look over there, a squirrel or something !”

Also “we know machines are doing more and more, jobs are getting automatized, but instead of making your life easier we must ask you to work longer and longer, now just shut up thanks”.

    Late stage capitalism minions unite!

  5. modern technology has made us so much more productive yet people are forced to work for longer and longer while becoming poorer and poorer compared to their parents and grandparents… you just gotta love capitalism who cares if peoples lives are getting shittier as long as the economy keeps growing!

  6. Meanwhile I’m working to 67, and the money my country makes on this will be spent bailing out other European countries whos state finances are bad because of low retirement age.

  7. I have an idea!

Considering the large amount of French here who claim their pension system works perfectly fine, let’s make a test.

    The system remains as is:

    If it works, perfect.

If not and there is not enough money in the system… well then everybody gets only a perpetual portion of the monthly pensions. E.g. the dear old lady with her 1100€ pension gets only 300€.

  8. I just think this is selfish considering the lack of future young people to pay into the scheme, the increasing demand for high quality of life and comfort and the high life expectancy.

This is just going to shift responsibility for paying for those who will get a pension onto those who will likely never retire or own property.

  9. Pursue a job with an early retirement age. Retire to Spain/Greece.This seems to be the only way to a semi-decent life. Too bad most of us can’t do it.
