The trees in the Ardennes are easy for hanging. Studies have shown that if you need to search for the suicide opportunity, the moment passes and most will carry on living. If you just have to walk outside and tie yourself to a tree, the moment hasn’t passed yet, and you’re dead.
Also: good registration in Belgium. Look at the missing suicides in the Dutch Bible Belt for example.
Fun fact: Finland is known as the country with the happiest people in Europe, but with one of the highest suicide rates. Always wanted to investigate this a bit further, but never got the time

I always felt lucky to be born in Belgium. I don’t get how we can be that high in the suicide rate.
i am surprised seeing the scores of the Flemish provinces.
Belgium is just too great at registering everything. I can bet the yellow colour is just locations with terrible statistics tracking.
Remember there were countries with 0 covid victims too.
