Weird people think only women would be attracted to a revitalised Social Democrats under her. As a 36 year old guy, the idea of a genuine alternative to SF sounds brilliant. Plus, at worse, it forces SF to up their game too, in a bid to hold what they have.
They have a young woman as leader.
I’m a young woman.
I’m gonna vote for them.
-Irish women according to pollsters.
The inherent misogyny in all these takes about the social democrats new leader from the far right to the alleged centre ”left” is something to behold.
Fairly certain people have been moving slowly over to the SD for the last couple years now.
Sister (plus 35) moved over and would have had voted SF before a FF/FG party. She’s a mix of converstive/progressive on different issues.
Irish man here 18 – 35 voting for SD last election aswell lol
I like SDs, I liked them before Holly took over. Holly may have been the reason I liked them though. I’m male 38.
I didn’t really fancy SF, but thanks to our voting system, I can give SF support over FF/FG, without giving my local candidate the number 1.
Their pushing of the crackpot zero COVID agenda finished me ever considering voting for them.
This thread is weird. There are few lads on here pushing the idea that recent Social democrat coverage in the media is a big plot against Sinn Féin.
And then blocking people who engage with them.
SD’s going to fascinate them with a piece of cheese.
In the other picture (man looking back at the other woman) the man looks attracted to the other woman.

With the roles reversed here, the woman looking back, looks more like the ‘other man’ just insulted her.
If they put up a candidate in my constituency, I’ll vote for them. Me: male, 54 years old.
I’ve supported them since they started: but I’m not a member. I could never in good conscience **join** a political party.
I’m voting her because she’s cute instead of the normal frumpy ones they choose.
I mean… she’s a charismatic leader and speaks to disaffected politically engaged young women unlike all the other women-hating SDs they had previously
I wanted to vote SocDems in the last election but none were running in my constituency
Shinner man myself but I can’t deny the SDs are looking pretty good
I am irish woman 18-35, can confirm.
Seems to me it’s less a question of gender and more the fact that they’re going to hoover up the Labour vote (both actual and the lapsed) and take their place.
Tbh I think it divides the sf voters thus leaving fg and ff to regain power again
Is mary loud not considered a female leader or is she not good looking enough?

It’s a dastardly plan by FF/FG to split the vote by inventing a new party.
The media loves Holly. She will get non stop puff pieces in the IT, Journal, even the Indo. Everything she says will be portrayed as some glass-ceiling smashing profundity. She’ll be a ‘breath of fresh air’, ‘ a new breed of politician’ etc. Etc. She’ll have fans on social media, she’ll be an Irish Jacinda Arden.
Which all means that she’ll take votes from female, college educated voters in their 20s and 30s. This will rob Sinn Fein for the most part, but also labour and the greens.
Sorry but I struggle to understand how a West Cork woman with a posh South Dublin accent can represent the ordinary person on the street. Women voting for her for no reason other than she’s female wouldn’t surprise me though. The same way masses of women have voted for Michael D for no reason other than he’s a lovely cute little man.
I don’t follow or keep up with politics, but I read up on the different peoples agendas when I go to vote. Not tied down to a single party but I do remember that social democrat people seemed more sane than most.
The party had/has a lot of potential but uncertain leadership and not enough on the ground. Hopefully she can turn it around.
The climate policies of Sinn Fein are very lacking compared to any of the left wing parties. Maybe this uptick in the polls for the SD will make them improve.
If they run enough candidates I’d vote for them. I had no choice last election and SF align beyond that. Give me the chance to vote SD and you’ll get my #1
Frankly, I love women. Women are tremendous. Honestly, there is no one, that, frankly, and this is what they tell me, loves women more than I do. They always say, “I’ve never seen somebody that loves women as much as you love women.”
Huge fan, and, frankly, women are the greatest.
Irish men 18-35 who have been saying we need an alternative to SF for years 🧍♂️
This is very very good news, even for SF supporters. A strong party like the SocDems without the baggage of SF will appeal to a lot of voters who like SF’s policies but can’t overlook their past, and I genuinely don;t see this eating into SF’s support base too much but instead potentially pulling more voters away from FF or the Greens.
Seriously boosts our chances of securing a leftist government without having to include FG or FF in the coalition.
If you’re deciding who to vote for based on the gender or age of the party leader it would make you wonder what your priorites are tbh
Voting is easy, you’re all thinking too hard. Just look up the mother and baby homes sealing of documents vote and refuse to vote for anyone who was in favour of sealing. Next open up your political grudges notebook and remind yourself of why the Labour Party pissed you off and then don’t vote for them. Easy.
There seems to be a lot of sarcastic/salty content about the rise of SD. I am not an Irish person, but honestly, I am happy that there is a new wave of (non alt right) politics coming in here. Atleast we have a voting system that optimises for this rather than splitting up votes.
I am also fickle and want Labour 2.0 to get voted in.
Yes…. what’s earning your vote got to do with anything anyway.
