The rental sector is a complete fiasco at this stage. Hindsight is 2020 etc.
The rental sector is a complete fiasco at this stage. Hindsight is 2020 etc. but back in 2015 Simon Coveney, then Min. for Housing, held a national consultation and published a Strategy for the Rental Sector, & it was a complete failure 1/n

I’m moving back in July. Got a lead on a house in Carraigtwohil about 10km outside of Cork. Nothing special, bog standard 3br semi detached. Yer one wanted €1,900 a month for it, and wanted us to start paying rent on it the day after the current tenants move out in early April – so we’d be renting it for three and a half months without being able to set foot in it. Even so, we actually thought about it – until this morning when I woke up to an email basically telling us we had our chance, and she couldn’t take a chance on losing income so rented it to someone else who’ll be in there immediately. (Then gave us a sob story about how she can’t be without the rental income because she has to pay her mortgage as well as care for her elderly mother).
It’s fucking every man for themselves out there at the moment.
It’s so fucking grim and depressing, like what is happening in Ireland is absolutely disgraceful. People in Vancouver complain about the housing crisis. But they complain about a plentiful 1600-2000€ one bedroom, while back home people are paying that for a room in a house. This is one of Canada’s worst hit.
It’s really stopping me moving home anytime soon.
