Why is chicken so expensive in Switzerland? ( in Coop and Migros even more)

  1. Because the standards are a lot higher than in other countries. And to be fair, 9.70 CHF is still pretty cheap if you think about it.

  2. CHF 9.70 is pretty cheap… You can feed 4 person with that size… Combined with rice and some vegetables and you have a meal for CHF 5 per person…

  3. Always this stinginess with meat🙄!
Meat has its price if the animals are to be kept halfway okey.

  4. The migros budget chicken i got last time was 7.50. if you go 1hr before closing you find many reduced meats. But yeah. That was super cheap.

  5. You you f. kidding me 10 CHF is expensive?

You get way less good cheese for this money. Meat is still too cheap.

  6. The mind boggles that local Swiss chicken or beef costs more at the point of sale than meat shipped in from South America.

It’s common in coop to have beef on ‘action’ in a big display near the door.. 40% reduction or something, it’s always from Argentina or something. Same for chicken, there’s usually 3 categories, the swiss bio, the swiss and the cheap one from eastern europe.

  7. There are two foods you should never save when getting them. A) meat and B) fish. Yes, you can get the cheap budget shit. But when you do, you also forfeited your right to complain about how animals are treated.

    It’s always the same…

  8. It’s still pretty cheap compared to other meat. If you buy organic, the chickens have an outdoor access and have more space. Most of the times the quality is better as well.

  9. To be honest it is quiet cheap and probably it has to do with some quality standards. think about the cost of a life? Less than 10.- for something that used to live

  10. This is not expensive. This used to be a living, breathing, sentient being. At least for the few unfortunate couple of weeks you let it. Now it has been killed and ripped of every little thong it ever had. And you think you paid too much? Shame on you.
