  1. If NPHET recommend that, they are a bunch of clowns. More likely to be nonsense I’d say.

Edit: Just seen “daily mail” so ya, lies.

  2. Not sure I can see the government agreeing with this as is – if true. They might spring for earlier closing but hardly that early?

  3. This is ridiculous. South Africa who discovered the variant have just came out today and said there will no new restrictions but no NPHET the over cautious fucking cunts want to ruin everything with there shite modeling. Honestly what is the point in vaccines if we keep going backwards.

  4. The reason they’re closing then at 5pm is so they’re not “banned”, therefore workers aren’t eligible for the PUP. It’s exactly what they did to nightclubs initially.

But they’re obviously not viable businesses, so they have to shut down, but with no PUP for staff. “your industry is open! What’s the problem!”.

Of course, this will be “only for two weeks”. And when it stretches into June, anyone who mentions this will be somehow an “anti-vaxxer”.

When I predicted this a few days ago, I was a fascist conspiracy theorist.

    Omicron patients in Ireland: 0

  5. Where is this coming from? I’ve been working in the hospitality trade this year and not once have I had the HSE in to take my records of contact tracing, 5pm closing time sure I’ll head around to my mate’s gaff that built bar in the back, he is having a party with 40 mates. You can do whatever you want there

  6. Trying to look like they are trying to reduce the number of infected. NPHET should not make such specific recommendations at this stage: they should say that the system can only handle a named amount of hospitalization and the number infected can not exceed the number that would give rise to the hospital system crashing. Then leave the govt to carry the can.

    I think it’s Meaningful Xmas 2.

  7. We should only open the barbers 10-3 and only let people over 5ft into cinemas and you should only be allowed fill up your car on Tuesdays.

  8. Hospitality industry is again being used as a scapegoat AGAIN. Honestly I feel safer going to the pub for a few pints for several hours than I do going to the shop for a loaf of bread and some milk for a couple of minutes.

I have only heard of one large COVID outbreak at a hospitality venue. That was in the North, at an underage disco, in a venue that has always been well known for trouble and overcrowding.

Every time I look at the data for all countries the numbers always go up when the schools open. Close the schools, even part time, a lot of lessons can be done online and students could then go in one day a week for practical lessons (and to reduce mental health issues)

  9. We all know there’s a contagious virus out there.

We all know that IF we catch it we MIGHT get very Ill.

We all know that IF we were infected we MIGHT make friends, family and neighbours ill.

We all know that socialising increases our chances of infection.

Why can’t we just be left to make our own choices and accept responsibility for whatever consequences there may be?

    Obligatory statement:
I’m vaccinated, wear a mask and have been civilly obedient but the thread is wearing thin now.

  10. But lots of country pubs or pubs that don’t do food, don’t open till 5 or 6 o clock, no footfall till the evening. How is that going to work.

  11. Surely would make more sense to close the schools today instead? That’s where the majority of cases are at the moment…

  12. My wife will be delighted. Normally i say ill be home for dinner and never make it. This time i have no choice

  13. Genuinely curious how NPHET believes this will come to an end? After the boosters?, but sure at that stage who’s to say that another variant won’t come along that requires another booster, and another one after that. Are we supposed to just accept now that we will need to have a partial lockdown every couple of months, or do we do what should have been done a long time ago and improve the failings of the HSE, and learn to live with it, because it’s not going anywhere
