  1. Welcome to normals island 2023 where “The King is to embrace a 17th century tradition to mark his reign with a special ceremony in which key British institutions reaffirm their loyalty to the monarch at Buckingham Palace”

Is just something that still happens ……

Aren’t we privileged that some can show their loyalty so publicly….

  2. > The long-held custom takes place to mark significant royal occasions and the event is in recognition of Charles’s accession to the throne.

    > The late Queen received the privileged bodies on five occasions during her reign, including for her accession in 1952.

For anyone who, based on the headline or first paragraph, thinks this is something he’s specifically decided to start or bring back rather than just another bit of tradition among all the others that’ll be going on.

  3. >The last time the ceremony took place was to celebrate Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, when Boris Johnson – then the London mayor – took the opportunity to present her with a commemorative Oyster travel card.

Just what the woman with everything needs.

I’m sure that the Oyster card got a lot of use.

  4. If the Cathiolic Church is on the list, shouldn’t Muslims be included too?

There are 4.2m Catholics in England and Wales, and 3.9 Muslims, so the numbers are quite similar.

  5. What possible relevance are this hyper privileged family to the every day lives of Britain’s? How anyone can support this dysfunction family is beyond my comprehension.

  6. i’d luff to see all the charters, from Academy of Science to Yacht Clubs go ‘yeh, that’s a pass for me, dawg’

  7. Remember that scene in house of the dragon where they get all the houses in red keep and make them swear loyalty to Aegon II lol

  8. All of the ceremonies around the new King really are demonstrating the monarch’s irrelevance better than any republican could have dreamt.
