  1. Congratulations and welcome to Finland. I hope you make a good life and great friends here.

  2. Congratulations, what a great feeling! All your hard work paid off. Hope you enjoy living here!

  3. One of the most important things is to learn Finnish, all of you.

You won’t maybe outright need it as you’ll live in the capital, but when you do you’ll thank yourself.

  4. Welcome.

And get ready for the two biggest challenges: We’re not social folk. That doesn’t mean we can’t be (or aren’t) friendly and welcoming, but we’re not that to the scale that’s typical of poorer countries.

And the language. It’s not that it’s THAT complicated. But it’s basically two languages: the standard register, and the actual dialect that’s being spoken wherever you land. These are two related but completely different things.

  5. Congratulations and welcome to finland!
Is your wife going to work here also. Providing for a family of four in helsinki with just a nurse’s salary is an uphill battle

  6. Congratulations! If you’re ever in the Turku/Raisio area, DM me for coffee and a chat if you like 🙂

    To the future.

  7. Fuck yeah, congratulations! I’m an American that’s planning on living her permanently (Applied for perm. residence permit, going for Citizenship once my Finnish is good enough), I love it here.

  8. Congratulations! I creeped on your profile a bit, and noticed you’ve had some issues with gambling addiction. Over here, there’s slot machines, scratch cards and lottery games available in most grocery stores, BUT they are all by the same [government company](https://www.veikkaus.fi/fi/yritys#!/responsible-gaming/responsible-gaming/responsible-gaming?lang=en), so you can self-impose gaming restrictions if need be. The mandatory authentication for lottery and scratch cards is coming soon, it’s already on the slots machines and some other games.

  9. As someone from an overpopulated 3rd world country myself, don’t freak out from the lack of people or the silence. It’s normal and hopefully you’ll get used to it.

Edit: someone commented that they peeked into your post history and so I did the same and what do you know… welcome, kabayan!

  10. Welcome! You should learn Finnish as fast as possible, you will be respected more and it’s easier to do things.

  11. Congrats! I’m not Finnish but would love to do the same one day, I’m in Asia as well though a pretty well off nation but I’m not super well educated. Trying to build some work experience and travel more and just see what happens, but Finland will always have a special place in my heart. Love all my friends out there.

    Enjoy yourself <3

  12. Welcome to Finland! I hope you and your family are going to have good time here. You’re just in time to still see snow, it’s beautiful winter here in Helsinki still right now but it’s not going to last very long!

I’m curious, hope you don’t mind me asking: From all the places in the world, why Finland?
