  1. Their mothers were sisters, Princess Dagmar of Denmark and Princess Alexandra of Denmark.

  2. „Now, our story begins on the dickety-third of February 1917. We had to say „dickety“, because our stupid cousin had stolen our word for twenty. We were sporting hipster beards and wearing a maltese crosses on our bellies, because it was the style at the time…“

  3. So the story goes. During the reception for George V’s wedding, guests repeatedly approached Nicholas II to congratulate him for getting married. While others asked George if he was enjoying his visit to the UK.

  4. Ironically, George was the first and only royal i think that invited Nicky to England in the first days of the revolution. As the provisional government, that was in charge then, was kind of moderate he probably would have been saved and living in exile in Kensington Palace /s

But Nickolas was hesitating, maybe hoping to regain his throne, and very soon Georgie withdrew his invitation. The British public, in between german hate in the midst of ww1 (Nickolas’ wife was considered by many a German spy) and the loath for the tyrant tsar, was against him coming in England and finally George succumbed to his people and the rest is history. There was an episode in the last season (?) of the crown that was kind of centered around George’s and Mary ‘s dilemma.
