ok, I’ll come back later, but i suspect its much like everyone imagines.
The discourse around immigration is painful. People act like there’s 2 camps, let’s everyone in or let no one in.
Any conversation other than, let everyone in, labels you a tory.

Something needs to be done though.
The money part:

I’m mean at this point France are begging for us to build a processing Center they have even agreed to police it for free. It would cost us 18.2 million pennies compared to the reported millions in rental/legal costs etc.
Why don’t we do it you ask because we would need to staff it and actually bother our arses doing something. It would also lead this government to admit it has never had safe/legal routes.
It would also give us real number and a pipeline this would mean houses would need to be found built converted etc.
It much easier for the government to pass the buck to local authorities and have the media sell it as an invasion and then they get to be defending our rights etc.
Also the status quo has earned landlords and hoteliers over 32 million in extra revenue in the past 9 months wonder how many of them might be Tory members.
I’m not on either side think every deserves a check/chance as long as it compatible but as you say you can get branded as some right wing nutter if you do speak up but I might be wrong but if you explain the cause rather than a symptom it’s easier to see who benefits from the system we have and it’s not us it’s the government and their mates.

Smugglers buy a boat and try and fill it with people. Sometimes they get caught, sometimes they don’t.
I’m now actually more curious to know how people thought it worked before this stunning revelation.
Well Sunak has secured vast sums of money for people traffickers.
The enemy of people traffickers are asylum processing centres and legal routes.
We need to make it so that the asylum process is quick and fair. Not everyone who comes here is a genuine asylum seeker, however we need to make sure that those who are receive the help they need in a reasonable time frame. The government has failed to provide such a service and is just blaming asylum seekers for coming here, even when France has said they are perfectly willing to help us deal with the issue. It’s pathetic and yet the government has convinced people it is the fault of those coming here.
