Living in Cork while working in Dublin. Yes, it can be done. Here’s how

  1. Misleading. The people living in Cork work from home and commute to Dublin one day a week. It’s not that strange

  2. The housing situation is nearly as bad in Cork as it is in Dublin. Plus, there’s no shortage of jobs in Cork at the moment unless you have a niche career. For the vast majority of people, it makes little sense to commute from Cork city to Dublin City.

  3. Thought it would be rough but it’s only one day a week getting up early to go to Dublin. With the prices these days I’d go for that to be honest if I could.

    Fuckin sad situation.

  4. This sounds like another situation where a person is making unnecessary journeys because someone decided the hybrid work model should be forced on employees and is somehow the best option for everyone.

Even though it’s one day a week, it probably costs the employee a fortune and needlessly takes up so much of an employees time. I bet they are less productive when they do get to the office and could probably do all their work as effectively by just staying at home.

The mad thing is, if she was expected to go to Manchester one time a week she would probably be asking the job to pay for her travel tickets and she would probably count the time she is traveling as working time because she is being made do it by the employer.

  5. Once or twice a week is 100% doable. Comparing it to NY metro area… I know people that commute 2 hours each way from Fairfield Connecticut or Philadelphia to NYC and it’s very much worth it for the salary difference and life style. They see the value in it and am considering something similar in Ireland myself.
