The only way to get a test is to use the amusingly named “testi” app which costs a tenner and gives you live notifications of cancellations.
They suspended tests for a lot of lockdown. And now they’re obviously prioritising lorry drivers because of the huge shortage. This situation isn’t surprising, even if it is frustrating
Getting an instructor is even worse, and they know it. I was learning until my instructor doubled his price and I couldn’t afford it anymore, and all the other instructors did similar, the ones who didn’t were booked for months in advance. In the end I just gave up
The website to book a theory test is terrible too. You end up scrolling 90 days X every individual test centre. Allow users to select multiple centres & show the soonest avaliable dates, why do i have to refresh the page 200 times to find an appointment
Had mine booked for 10th of December but they cancelled it the day before I was ready etc and no other tests got cancelled that day. They re booked me for end of January so now I have to wait and spend a crap ton more money to keep everything fresh >< can’t use Testi because My driving instructor is fully booked and can’t move stuff around last minute for a cancellation 🙁
A fantastic opportunity to say “Got your vaccinations? Then come right in! No? Well you’ll have to wait indefinitely then”.
I guess if ignore the pain in the arse this is for the people waiting the upside is that it’s a good thing for the planet! 500,000 fewer people polluting the air?
I was so pumped up to start driving lessons. I saved up the money and got a provisional, all that was left to do was book the first lesson!
Nope, haha. Not a chance.
That’s fine though, I’ve decided to just continue saving along with my partner, with the *eventual* goal of being able to buy a modest property somewhere which is a very remote possibility, but probably *more* attainable than trying to get driving lessons. Maybe in a couple of years I’ll revisit the whole learning-to-drive thing.

I used https://www.driving-test-cancellations-4all.co.uk/ to book my driving test last year. It was much easier than going on the dvla website everyday. Glad I got it all out the way in time!
