Johnson ally dismisses partygate bash as just ‘soggy sandwiches and a slice of birthday cake’

  1. Because everybody knows that disappointing party food gives immunity from criminal charges.

‘What do you mean, you let him go?’

‘Well Sarge, we did have enough to charge her but she’d just opened a packet of Party Rings and half of them didn’t have icing on. Can you *imagine*.’

  2. > soggy sandwiches

I knew Boris was a wanker, but playing public school party games doesn’t seem like conduct becoming a gentleman.

    Bon appétit, I suppose.

  3. A party with shitty food (& that just speaks volumes about your willingness to put your hand in your pocket for your staff) is still a party

  4. Back to this again. Even with the corrupt dick refusing to look and policing said events, he was still fined for this! He also got away without any investigation into parties in his actual house and others where he didn’t send back the postal questionnaire! Maybe it’s not the time to keep claiming this was acceptable or legal

  5. They had just made it illegal for us to meet up with our friends and family for sandwiches, they’d made it illegal for us to have cake with anyone we didn’t live with and we weren’t even allowed to socialise with other people if there was no food involved at all.

And after they passed those laws, they broke those laws repeatedly because they didn’t think that they should be held to the same standards as us.

The quality of the food isn’t the point, and they know it.

  6. Imagine admitting that somebody sold their future for some soggy sandwiches and a slice of birthday cake? It doesn’t strike me as the greatest flex of all time to be honest 🤷‍♂️

  7. Sure, maybe they threw a shit party. Still illegal though, I doubt any of us could have gotten out of fines by saying “I was kinda bored the whole time”

  8. I work in a Micro lab in a hospital. For months, my routine was get up, go to work, mask and gown, can’t have a tea break (social distancing), cant really have a lunch break (social distancing) , go home (no socialising). In the meantime process thousands of swabs for Covid while our ICUs were full of dying patients.

So no sandwiches, no birthday cake – because we were following the rules that Boris and his government set. During the first two years of the pandemic , over a third of our staff went off with mental health issues. It was even worse for the front line staff.

My contempt for these politicians knows no limit.

  9. If they had been serving the best from Fortnum and Mason then it would have been no different. If ordinary people were being fined for small gatherings then so should Johnson and every MP who attended such parties. Which is another thing to remember: this was not a one-time event. There were multiple parties across the times restrictions were in place, so it was not one act and none were mistakes. It sounds like he is annoyed that Johnson & Co were fined and found guilty, whereas Starmer was not for having a curry while working.

  10. “Couple of hookers, crate of cheap red wine and a gram of charlie. More of a standard night in for Bojo”

  11. Next time i commit a crime, or break some kind of code I will make sure its in the presence of a poorly made sandwich.

“Yes officer, i was doing 90 in a 30 zone, but please see this tesco egg mayo sandwich I’m currently consuming” I bet it’ll work a treat, just as long as i dont take a decent snack option

  12. So it was a shit party? That’s a shame, but it doesn’t change it was a damn sight more than the rest of us were allowed.

Correct me on the timeline if I’m wrong but these were the days where they had police challenging dog walkers to make sure they hadn’t strayed too far from their houses.

  13. Pure distraction. What was or wasn’t served at the gathering *doesn’t matter*. Either way it should never have happened.

  14. Nope. Hold them to the highest extent of the law and them some. If anyone was prosecuted at the time, they deserve the maximum sentence plus .5 since they were meant to be setting an example.

  15. I couldn’t imagine losing someone during covid lockdowns and attending a funeral with 10 people when countless relatives and friends did not have a chance to say goodbye.

YET we had government ministers wheeling in suit cases of booze into 10 Downing Street.

The absolute lack of shame this Tory government shows is beyond disgusting!!

  16. I hope he has shit food for the rest of his life.

My grandad didn’t get to be with my gran when she died while he did exactly what he wanted.

There isn’t a word in the English language to expressions how odious and detestable that genital wart of a man is. If he stepped in dog shit I would feel sorry for the dogshit for having something so gross on it.

  17. They still don’t seem to understand why the parties were an issue. It wasn’t because there was alcohol. It wasn’t because there wasn’t food. It was because there was people. Fucking morons.

  18. Depending on which lockdown this was in, this was potentially in the period where the government seemingly forgot single person households exist and banned us from being within 6ft of anyone we knew for 3 months (until they introduced support bubbles).

So I’m not sympathetic that the gathering wasn’t very good, at a point I was using weighted blankets to replace human touch.

If it was at least after that, there’s still an absurdity to them seeming to not understand rules the government themselves set.

  19. The most insulting thing about this is they are clearly trying to build a very specific narrative about what happened to get out of this consisting of 3 main parts. The first part of it is that they want the public to focus on just one of the reported 16 parties in Downing Street and Whitehall. They know his birthday party will be the least egregious example and are trying to claim it was all some sort of “surprise with a cake” where he felt obliged to stay out of politeness. They are going to hammer this one into the public consciousness and ignore everything else including the “Abba Party” in Johnson’s flat that never even got properly investigated, the regular “Wine Time Friday” parties, the “garden drinks” and the numerous “leaving dos” which the PM attended and made speeches.

The second part of it is to discredit the evidence primarily by insinuating Sue Gray is some sort of Labour agent and thus all her work is clearly fictional or biased. Very strange timing on Labour’s part to announce this imo because it was obvious they would use it to attack the report even though it’s clearly nonsense to suggest it was biased. They will also attack the Commons Committee in the same way because it’s headed by Labour MP Harriett Harman even though there is a Conservative majority on it (who they will say are vengeful Remainers no doubt). The third part is claiming the public just want us to move on as they don’t care anymore and that there are more important things to worry about which is an idea that they always push when something embarrassing shows up.

It’s very clear from the documented evidence that Boris Johnson did both significantly attend and know about parties being held at no.10 during the period of time when it was against the rules to do so so it’s basically impossible to not conclude that he didn’t both lie to and mislead Parliament. Sadly we will probably see the tabloids claiming utter nonsense, tame Tory journalists giving Johnson political cover and we will end up with low informed fools believing a totally ridiculous narrative. You only need look at the [front page of the Daily Mail – Frontpage.com link](https://www.frontpages.com/g/2023/03/04/daily-mail-000620206.webp) on Friday to see how this is going to play out. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this turns into the same sort of farce as we saw in the United States with their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 general election.

  20. The law says nothing about parties or wine or the type of food consumed. It says nothing about work vs casual meetings.

Even calling it ‘partygate’ confuses the message.

It was a gathering at a time when that was illegal. They’re all guilty.

  21. They’re such a bunch of idiots. Everytime they try to diminish what they’ve done it just makes people more angry. They don’t have a clue why people are angry – the vast majority of the population stuck to lockdown rules, lived miserable confined lives, and with many losing family and friends. Funerals were held remotely and people said their goodbyes alone.

Of course we’re pissed off the politicians broke their own lockdown laws for sodding frivolous reasons and are now trying to make out like it doesnt matter. I’m shocked the tories even have any support left.

  22. Even if you were bloody served some soggy sandwiches and pub squash at a party, it was a f-ing party when there wasn’t supposed to be a f-ing party. String ’em up, I say,! Not literally, mods, I mean throw the book at them. Or even a few pages. Throw SOMETHING at them, even if it’s rotten tomatoes or eggs. F-ing political allies.

  23. That we’re expected to buy these excuses just shows Tory MPs and their allies think they’re superhuman.

  24. If Johnson was caught robbing a museum they’d be saying it was just getting a better look at the priceless artifacts and taking them out for some air

  25. So the Tories can’t organise a decent party, or pay for one. Not really the point. What a waste of oxygen.

  26. The Tories assume everybody are liars and rule breakers as that is what is “normal” to them.

They assume everybody else are ignorant fools and unable to comprehend logic.

This is why they do this. If they can convert a few people to the Tory Cult of lies each time one of these ridiculous articles are released, it’s a win for them.

Fortunately, most people see sense as they’ve messed around with pretty much every single demographic there is during brexit, covid and the current cost of living crisis, and most people are just fed up now.

  27. all the rest of the uk locked down and our families dying in hospital while this lot of dirty ho’s was having fun and gang bangs 😡
