Swiss contrasts: old concrete building with lakeview on the Eiger and Jungfrau

  1. Sometimes you can find affordable places to live with amazing view if you get lucky in Switzerland. Here in Neuchatel, do you know any other places like that?

  2. Yeah, when the value of a property is almost solely determined by its location, it’s financially wise to build a cheap ass soviet block and rent it out

  3. Quite a contrast indeed.

I was always wondering why nationalists do not fight these violations of countryside.
Probably there’s money to make with it.

  4. I worked in construction for many years. Even though the building is older (and I am NOT arguing that it is pretty), it is made to last. The concrete shell can be renovated, painted, insulation or new HVAC added, etc. This is done often. Aesthetics aside, Swiss build quality is generally very high.

  5. I don’t find it ugly. Just plain and simple. Much better than those cheesy fake chalets in the flatland

  6. Need to demolish that building to get that beautiful view! Reminds me of the time I used to work in Japan and this old building was blocking the view from mt Fuji and it was demolished within a year haha

  7. Most of the buildings in our country are simply fugly, let’s be honest. I think we don’t try different approach when it comes to architecture. There is no originality or creativity compared to other countries or to what we used to do during the XIX century up to 1950..
