Financial hole because of Corona – Nobody wants to pay the pandemic losses of the hospitals (German)

  1. Yeah, nah.

Fuck this. You know what really cheeses my onions?

Here’s what really gets me annoyed. I live in Vaud. Lausanne specifically. We have all these great hospitals, with all this medical equipment, well-trained staff trained up at UNIL, nurses from the nursing school, radiologists, etc..

Basically, the entire infrastructure to pump people into the hospitals, fund them, and ensure a high quality of care.

Then, when a national incident like this hits, the medical infrastructure that we bear a disproportionate financial brunt for having is used by people from other Cantons. Great! Come on in! We like to share!

But now, when it comes to paying the bill, we’re on the hook, again.

My issue has always been the same: while Cantons have systems of reimbursements for medical services sought outside of the Canton you live in, a disproportionate burden is placed on those with large-scale, high-tech medical facilities. If you’re from Sion and go to the CHUV for an operation, that operation will be billed back to your Canton.

However, that doesn’t take into account the true cost of everything that goes into having the CHUV.

Since this was a *national* emergency, it seems only normal that the financial payment would be *national*, too.

  2. This is what happens when you make your healthcare system revolve around profit; why is anybody surprised? America shows us the end of this road..

  3. This is possibly a stupid question, but where exactly do these losses come from?

Hospitals had to provide care to people which was paid by health insurance. Are the losses because they had to stop other activities? (eg, elective surgery)? Or something else?

  4. Hospitals make way to much money, its disgusting how the owners underpay the staff and overcharge the patients!
