Wayne Couzens: Did indecent exposure warn of murder?

  1. Should someone have predicted he would escalate to rape and murder? No. Should someone have concluded he got off on exercising power over women and should not be in a position of authority? Yes.

  2. I think there were probably a lot of warning signs that we need to as a society get better at recognising. This man had a mother, father, neighbour, friend, teacher and other people in his life, one of them must have had some information/feeling/experience that suggested he was a risk to society.

We can’t put people into positions of power, whether that be police or even some kind of management when these risks have not been properly acted on.

This is all of our responsibility. We can’t just say this man shouldn’t have been a police officer, he would have found a way to abuse any power given to him. We also don’t have the luxury of relying on someone else to tackle the problem. We need a way to report non-crime concerning behaviours so that proper vetting decisions can be made to keep society safe.

  3. What the Beeb is trying to do in this article is suggest that people who indecently expose themselves should be arrested on attempted rape charges because one leads to the other, in their minds.

And if that ever happens, be sure that “indecently expose” will suffer the same definition creep as all other sexual offences to eventually include events where nothing happened but the “victim” thought something might happen.

This is the erosion of our justice system and you are watching the Beeb play an integral part in real time.

    Don’t say you weren’t warned.

  4. Statically no. But it should have at least led to him being fired from the police (whether that would have stopped him from committing the murder, no one can say for sure, but it still should have happened). Shame they didn’t make the connection until after his arrest.

  5. I get that, that victim will have 19m of his life.. down to that crime. That’s their justice.

But in reality, he’s never ever getting out, so it doesn’t make a practical bit of difference. He’s on a whole life term (one of only 50 or so I think).

Same as the concurrent bs, if I were a,victim I’d want my justice to be it’s OWN term / punishment.

  6. We live in a society that continuously repeats the ‘size matters’ mantra. Ofc you’re gona get entitled men exposing their genitals. You have to accept the consequences.
