Hello! My heating stopped working in my finnish apartment and no one can come to fix it till Monday. Please, does anyone of you guys know, if maybe something is wrong with the switches?

  1. As for the problem itself, since you live in apartment it’s highly unlikely that you have direct heating.

Go knock on your neighbours door and ask if they are having the same issue. Most apartments in Finland are centrally heated (district heating, geothermal etc.)

  2. Just to clarify, does your whole apartment have floor heating? That’s very unusual. Usually it’s radiators. Often district heating, but it can be electric as well.

And if you have radiators on the walls, do they have pipes?

  3. Nothing is labeled as heating.
What form of heating you have?
does the device have any lights on to indicate it has / doesnt have power.

If the wires are safely installed, you should be able do just flip all fuses up. And you seem to have fault current protection, so you should be safe from electrocution.

  4. only thing I can see is that the fuse for the cloth dryer socket is OFF (5.3) but you may have none installed (?)

Could it be that the floor heating is fed by the same line as the cloth dryer ?

  5. On the top it says that this fuse box doesn’t cover ventilation, and since there’s nothing labeled heating it’s safe to assume the heating fuses are somewhere else as well.

Floor heating can be also done with water pipes, but nevertheless the main heating is from somewhere else. However it’s good idea to try the thermostats and see if that helps.

Since heating during winter is a must, you can tell the maintenance company to come promptly, especially if the indoor temperature is decreasing.

(edit: mistake about fire alarm fuse)

  6. It is a long shot but if it was something here its that “Pistorasiat keskuksessa”/”electric sockets in the hub”. The only other breaker down is bathroom dryer, “Kuivaus” on the second row.

Just call the building maintenance, heating stopping working in the middle of winter is a ground for “alert job”, unless your building maintenance is staffed with idiots.

  7. You seem to have also LTO machine (ventilation unit), which heats air. Is ventilation working?

  8. Fuse ”kuivaus” (drying or towel dryer) is same as heating at your bathroom. Usually you can lift all the fuses up that has some kind of text attached to them unless there are yellow/green tape over them or some other warning or lock.

  9. Try putting “Kuivaus” fuse on. It means “drying”.

E: Do you mean all around your apartment is floor heating? In that case i think its done with water. Check under/near your fusebox, there should be another “box” inside the wall where those control things are.

  10. If it’s a modern apartment building (multiple stories), you probably have a water circulation based heating system, which happens to not work at the moment. Smaller buildings sometimes have electric heating.

Tap water and heating water come from the same place, but from two different heat exhangers. That’s why you have warm water coming in. It should get fixed pretty quickly if there’s something wrong.

Your fuse box has nothing to do with heating.

  11. vedät kaikki vitun vivut alas ja sitten rämpytät tota nappia mikä lukee schneider merkin vasemalla puolella ja sitten nostat ylös ja rukoilet jumalaa

  12. What kind of radiators do you have in your apartment? If theres not any you probably have floor heating and its hvac system and its not controlled by the fuse box so you have to be in connection with your building society. They will fix the problem. Regards plumber 🙂

  13. Your 5.3 is off. I’m guessing you have one socket in the bathroom that’s not working? You can’t fix your heating from here, but do you have floor heating or radiators under your window? If it’s floor heating, the problem is a broken thermostat and it needs to be replaced by an electrician. If you have radiators, the problem is the thermostat or the central heating has been turned off. A temporary fix you can do id to take the thermostat off from the radiator and it’s supposed to go full blast until a new one is installed.

  14. You must go to Alko and buy Suomi viina, drink one bottle
Today and one on Sunday, call your boss on Monday and say you need to take a pekka päivä. And maybe you forget about the heating problem during your kännit.

  15. try to flip all cirvuit breakers where the black part is downwardd to up position – one by one
If the kimp back down there is a fault somewhere…checking neighbors status (heating and fuses) is a good idea. You should demand faster support, too

  16. Man that non-aligned chart for breaker names pisses me off! /r/mildlyinfuriating

Anyway, the following breakers are off:

    * 5.3, Kuivaus
    * 8.3, Pistorasiat keskuksessa (Outlets in …machine room (exchange, hub, centrum?) ?)

The latter could have something to do with it, if there’s like pump for how water circulation in the, uh, “centrum”.

Other than that, this doesn’t look like electrically heated apartments switchboard.

What kind of heating do you have? Does it just blow warm air from somewhere? Do you have water circulating heaters in each room?

  17. If Its appartament block u cant do nothing ! I could come and fix it if your AS Oy pays for my visit ! Where do u live ?

  18. *UPDATE* it started working again this morning. I tried many of your tips, but maybe it took so long to feel a change, because the apartment was cooled down. Thank you guys for your help! Amazed by the amount of people, that were so helpful and even offered to come by and take a look at it. Best community!
