  1. The red dot in Japan ? Is it related to the nuclear bombs ?

Edit : its a nuclear power plant that melted down according to the comments below.

  2. You can see Fukushima!

Also the attention to regions is nice, for example Sinai vs. Egypt, or border zones.

  3. Its the first map where I see the ongoing civil war in Thailand depicted. A civil war which the Thai government very successfully manages to hide from the public eye.

  4. Green China, seriously?

PRC’s habit of kidnapping random foreigners to exchange them for criminals they want their host country to free is not a relevant factor?

I’d honestly rather cross paths with Somali pirates than Chinese police.

  5. some of it is lazy work. You are safer in Hargeysa or Garowe (northern somalia) than in some central american countries that have a high murder rate or certain neighborhoods of big american cities

  6. Not fan of this map, its not very detailed. For example I am sure that country of Georgia is much much safer place to visit than Memphis or Detroit. You take one wrong turn in most of the US and its lights out.

  7. Why are the colombian borders all red and inner colombia yellow? I thought the Ecuador border was actually relatively safe, and the jungle and mountains in the yellow area can house some of the guerillas who like to sequester foreigners for moneys.

  8. OP didn’t translate the colour coding so let me do it for those who are curious.

    Red: please avoid travelling there

Orange: only travel there if you have an important reason to

Yellow: be more vigilant when travelling there

Green: be as vigilant as you’d normally be

  9. To those who say that the map isn’t quite accurate on country level, this map is a mere summary of the detailed map France Ministry of Foreign Affairs does for every country. If you go to the website of the French Embassy for a particular country, you have a section “Conseils aux Voyageurs / Advices to travellers” with a very detailed map of the country and the color coded regions, as well as long texts describing the main threats/elements you must be aware of in the country.
